Community of Faith United Church of Christ

Community of Faith United Church of Christ Please continue to follow us and our Hungarian heritage at our new home Community of Faith UCC. We welcome those who are in recovery.

We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or like our pastor who can’t carry a note in a bucket. You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you've never been to church, or haven’t been in church since your confirmation, wedding, or little Joey’s Baptism. We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, an

d to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, treehuggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too. If you blew all your offering money at the dog track, you’re welcome here. We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church. We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. We welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts … and you!

verse of the day
If you take notice of the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Have a seat here, please”, while to the one who is poor you say, “Stand there”, or, “Sit at my feet”, have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
- James 2:3-4

voice of the day
If I had been a journalist at the time of the crucifixion, I would have been hanging around Herod's palace talking to Pilate and disregarding [Jesus].
-Malcolm Muggeridge

prayer of the day
God, all your children are created equal. Even as we confess that truth with our tongues, lead us to resist the temptation to show favoritism to the rich and the powerful. Amen.

Dear God, thank you for sending us Jesus just when we need him, alive in each other’s eyes. Amen.

Back when I was terrified of making mistakes a couple asked me to pray at their wedding. The day of the wedding I overslept and arrived just before the service began.

Thursday Prayer by Erin Counihan

O God,
Your nine beloved ones lost.
Gunned down.
This tragedy, this terror, this hate.
In Your house.
In Your sanctuary.
We weep, we scream, we shake, we cry out.
We can't handle it.
We can't imagine it.
How can this be?
But, come on.
We don't need to imagine.
We know how it can be.
Because, if we're honest, we know.
We have created this tragedy.
Through injustice and racism and hate and violence.
We have allowed generations to be raised
Thinking hate is okay.
We have allowed generations to be raised
Thinking violence is justified.
We have allowed generations to be raised
To abuse and misuse your Word.
We have allowed generations to be raised
To violate, devalue and kill black bodies.
So today as we weep, mourn and grieve,
As we cry, shake and pray,
Forget comfort.
Challenge us back.
Call us to work.
Call us to change.
Call us to speak.
Call us to act.
Call us to DO SOMETHING to build Your kingdom on earth.
Call us to DO SOMETHING to STOP racism and injustice, violence and hate,
In every sanctuary.
In every community.
On every block.
In every home.
Now.

Amen.
