Your heart doesn’t just lead you. It follows what you value most.

We often assume that our feelings have to change before our habits do. We think, "If I cared about God more, I’d pray more." But Jesus reveals a counter-intuitive truth in Matthew 6:21: your heart follows your treasure, not the other way around.

Affection grows where time and energy are given. If we give our best and first energy to scrolling, comparison, or managing our own "kingdoms" of control and success, our hearts are being discipled by anxiety and envy. We aren't planning to be distracted or scheduling time for worry, but through "ordinary neglect", a little less prayer and a little more noise, our hearts naturally lean toward the things we are chasing.

The invitation is not to feel more, but to invest differently. When you choose prayer before you surrender your mind to your phone, or generosity before self-protection, you are training your heart to love what God loves.

By reordering your priorities and seeking His kingdom first, the temporary things of this world lose their power to rule over you. You stop building your life on things that can’t keep their promises and start resting in the only One who can. Future you is shaped by what you choose to chase today.

Some of the hardest seasons of our lives can shape something in us that someone else will someday need.

The comfort you received can become comfort you give. The strength God gave you can help steady someone who is struggling. Even the lessons learned in your cave can have a purpose beyond your own survival.

God can take what you have been through and turn it into compassion for someone who is still trying to find their way out.

Who might need what God has taught you?

There are seasons in life where pulling back is not cowardice, but true wisdom. It is completely okay to get out of the storm for a little while to catch your breath, recover, and let your soul catch up with your body. Even Jesus frequently withdrew from the crowds to quiet, lonely places to pray.

But we must recognize the dangerous line between healing and hiding. A cave is a necessary shelter for a season, but if we stay there too long, it can easily change from a refuge into a prison. In deep isolation, our perspective becomes distorted and our fears turn into an echo chamber. We start telling ourselves we are "protecting our peace" when, in reality, we are simply avoiding difficult relationships and making ourselves completely unreachable.

When God stands at the entrance of your isolation and asks, "What are you doing here?" He is not angry, and He is not shaming you for being tired. He is reminding you that your story is not over, and that the connections, opportunities, and purposes for your next chapter cannot be found in hiding. You survived the storm for a reason. Step out in faith, knowing that the same God who protected you in the dark will be the very same God who protects you as you walk back into the light.

Sometimes the answer isn’t another cup of coffee, a longer to-do list, or trying to push through.

Sometimes you need to eat something and take a nap. 😴🍽️

Even Elijah got the “have a snack and get some sleep” treatment before God dealt with everything else. 😂

So if anybody asks why you’re napping, just tell them:

“I’m being spiritual.”

We build walls to protect ourselves from being hurt. But eventually, those same walls can keep out the people God may use to encourage us, challenge us, and walk beside us.

Pastor Jared Harper reminds us that safety can become isolation. You can protect yourself from pain so completely that you also protect yourself from love. What began as a shelter can eventually become a prison.

The cave can feel safe because it once protected you. But there comes a time when staying hidden becomes its own kind of fear.

Elijah discovered that God was still speaking, still leading, and still had a purpose for his life beyond the place where he had taken refuge.

Faith does not mean fear disappears. It means fear no longer gets the final word.

When God calls you forward, trust His voice.

Today we’re thankful for the hands that build, teach, care, repair, create, serve, and provide.

Whatever our job may be, Scripture reminds us that even ordinary work can be done with an extraordinary purpose when we do it for the Lord.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord.”
Colossians 3:23

May God bless the work of your hands and give you rest today. Happy Labor Day!

Welcome to Abundant Life! We're so glad you've joined us today.

Sometimes God calls us to take a step before we can see where the road will lead. We may not have every answer or know exactly what lies ahead, but we can trust the One who does. God goes before us, walks with us, and gives us the courage to move forward when faith asks us to step beyond what feels comfortable. Whatever you're facing today, don't let uncertainty keep you standing still. Trust His direction, follow His leading, and remember that the God who called you will never abandon you. Let's worship together and put our trust in Him!

Welcome to our Sunday worship experience! We're so glad you're here...
