Our generous parishioners have donated over 40 baskets for the Basket Raffle at the St. Jude Festival this Sunday 12:00-7:00. Well, some are not just baskets - they are pedal karts, Jaguar chairs and swag, and a really cool smoker - prizes for all ages!

Today we celebrate the Passion of John the Baptist. While his life ended in martyrdom, John led a life of faithfulness to God. “He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30)

He is known for preparing the way for the coming of the Messiah. John was a bold preacher and evangelist. He spoke out against the evils of the world and challenged leaders and people in high positions to repent and turn to God.

We gathered with the wonderful faculty and staff of St. Jude School for a special Mass, asking God to bless our teachers and staff as we begin a new school year.

St. Augustine of Hippo, son of St. Monica, was a bishop and a prolific Catholic writer.
⁣
In his early life, Augustine lived recklessly and loved worldly sensualities and partying. His mother prayed for his conversion, and he eventually accepted Christianity as the one, true religion.
⁣
After finding conviction through scripture, he was baptized by St. Ambrose in 387 and was ordained a priest in 391. He became the Bishop of Hippo in 396 and spent the rest of his life preaching the Gospel, writing against heresy, and converting people to Christianity. He is recognized as a Doctor of the Church.

St. Augustine is the patron of theologians, brewers, and printers.

St. Monica was devoted woman of God, a loving mother, and patient wife. She was the mother of Augustine, Bishop of Hippo and two other children, Navigius, and Perpetua.
⁣
Monica was arranged to marry a pagan Roman named Patricius. He had a temper like his mother’s and Monica often suffered through much distress. Patricius, while he respected his wife’s faith, was obstinate in his belief and it was not until the very end of his life that he converted.
⁣
Monica set a holy example for her children and influenced Navigius and Perpetua to enter religious life. Her son, Augustine, however, resisted for much of his early life. Through her persistent prayers and help from St. Ambrose, Augustine finally converted.
⁣
She is the patron saint of difficult marriages, abuse victims, and mothers.
⁣
