As the United States of America commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, the USCCB joins this celebration by lifting up the contributions of Catholics and the impact of our faith on the history of this country.
In a historic moment, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, 2026, and invite all parishes to join in this consecration.

Join us as we say the Novena which begins June 3rd and ends on June 11th.

Today is the feast day of St. Justin Martyr.

St. Justin lived in the second century and became the Church’s first apologist. He was able to reason and defend the faith in a way that other Christians could not and often engaged in public debates.

Justin was beheaded by the Roman government for refusing to sacrifice to the Roman gods.

He is the patron of philosophers, apologists, and lecturers.

Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity as we celebrate a core doctrine of our faith. The Trinity is one God, three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Through the love between the persons of the Holy Trinity, we are called to exemplify that same love in our relationship with God and with others.

Pope Leo XIV has released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, a major teaching document on artificial intelligence, human dignity, and life in a digital age. In it, he addresses everything from children’s use of smartphones and doomscrolling to autonomous weapons, algorithmic injustice, and why no machine can ever define what it means to be a person created in the image of God.
For a quick overview, here are 15 key quotes that capture some of its most important insights.

Today is the feat day of St. Pope Paul VI.

Paul VI, originally born as Giovanni Battista Montini, became a priest in 1920 and in 1924 began work for the Vatican Secretariat of State. In 1954, he was named the archbishop of Milan and was selected to be a cardinal in 1958 by John XXIII.

He was elected pope in June of 1963 and continued the work of his predecessor during the Second Vatican Council in which 16 documents were promulgated.

Paul VI was also influential with his written encyclicals, visits, and relations with other countries. He increased the number of cardinals in the Church, giving many countries their first. Pope Paul VI died on August 6, 1978.

He is the patron of the Archdiocese of Milan.

Today is the feast day of St. Philip Neri.

Philip was a charismatic and intriguing man as many were charmed by his personality. He originally studied to be a priest but abandoned his studies after three and became an active member of the laity. He spent his days engaging others from all walks of life in the faith.

After 13 years, Philip was again urged to become a priest. Many other men who followed him also became priests and together they formed the Oratory, a religious institution who live in community with a special dedication to charity work.

Philip died in 1595 of a hemorrhage and was canonized in 1622. He is the patron of joy, laughter, humor, and Rome.
