Flowers in the Fall

During one fall season, I noticed a post where a sister had shared pictures of the flowers she had placed on her daughter’s grave. It immediately reminded me of several boxes of really nice flowers that had been given to me and were stored in my garage. Instantly, I had the thought to offer to add some of them to her arrangement, not to show off, but simply to be a help. I knew how expensive flowers could be, and I already had all of these extras. I just wanted to help. I reached out to her, and she immediately said yes. She was so thankful.

Sometimes life just happens, and we all go through things. Before I knew what was happening, I found myself having spinal surgery to fuse two places in my neck.I woke up one morning while recovering , and it hit me, “Today is the day to do those flowers.”
Without hesitation, I loaded everything up. Even though I was under strict lifting restrictions, I knew what I was supposed to do.

When I arrived at the cemetery, I unloaded everything, sat my phone on the headstone, and turned on some gospel music. As I arranged those flowers, I talked to the Lord, and I talked to that grave just as if that sweet little sister were standing there with me. I remember telling her that these flowers were nothing compared to what she was seeing now.

When I finished one side, I stepped back to take a look. On one side of the grave was a metal butterfly garden ornament, and on the other side was a bright green frog garden ornament.I moved over to finish the other side. As I lifted the flowers out of the vase, I happened to glance down, There, sitting right on the edge of that vase was the prettiest bright green frog just looking at me.

Normally, I would have hollered and carried on, but instead the sweetest peace came over me. It felt like a gentle nod from The Lord. I carefully moved the little frog, finished arranging the flowers, and quietly packed everything up. Looking back on it, I also realized something else. I never once had a single pain from all of the lifting and bending over, even though I had just had spinal surgery and was under lifting restrictions.

I never posted a single picture of those flowers because I didn’t want any credit. You see, my desire was simply to be a help. More than anything, I wanted to be pleasing to The Lord, and to me, that little frog was His way of letting me know He was pleased with my effort.

I could have easily sold all of those flowers and made a good bit of money, but I remembered hearing Bro. Edwin Spurgeon testify that he would rather give it all away.

Today, my desire is still the same, to be a help and to be pleasing to the Lord.
