O foolish Galatians! Who bewitched you? The only explanation Paul can come up with is that someone cast a spell — because what was so clearly proclaimed to them, they forgot. You started by the Spirit. Don't try to finish by the flesh. Did you receive the Spirit by works? Then don't try to be perfected by works. The cross hasn't changed.

Are you finishing the way you started — or have you drifted into trying to do it in your own strength?

My friend Peter does all the right things — reads his bible, prays, comes to church every week. But he hates it. He does it because he feels like he has to, not because he wants to. Christ didn't die for that. He died to give you life now. Joy now. Not just in eternity — right now. "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."

Is the gospel making a real difference in your life today — or just in theory?

A person is not justified by works of the law — but by faith in Christ. You don't do anything. Christ did all the work. You believe it, and God declares it. Kevin DeYoung calls the alternative "impossible Christianity" — an anxiety-driven religion that constantly tells you you're not good enough. You don't have to be like Peter. You just have to be saved.

Are you resting in justification or constantly trying to earn what Christ already gave you?

Peter had a rooftop vision where Christ himself told him: what God has made clean, don't call unclean. For a time he lived in that freedom. Then the wrong crowd showed up — and he pulled back. The man who walked on water was hiding who he was because he was afraid of what people might say. Sound familiar?

In what areas of your life are you still walking in the fear of man?

At the end of everything — after all the theology, all the debate, all the defending of the gospel — the apostles had one practical request: remember the poor. Not make Titus conform. Care for people who need it. The gospel doesn't require much of others. It requires much of you.

Not what can they be doing — what can you be doing?

Right in the middle of seeking endorsement from the apostles, Paul stops himself: "What they are makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality." He already had all the validation he needed in Christ. And so do you. For anyone who feels pushed aside, looked over, or unwelcome — the gospel says you are fully accepted.

Where are you still looking for validation from people that you already have in Christ?

Paul brought Titus to Jerusalem — a Greek, different in every way, someone who didn't fit the mold. And his point was simple: they didn't make him become Jewish. The gospel doesn't require you to fit someone else's idea of what a Christian looks like. Titus might not be accepted by false brothers. But he is accepted by God.

Is there a Titus in your life you've been slow to welcome? What is that really about?

If anyone — even an angel, even Paul himself — preaches a different gospel, let him be accursed. The title doesn't matter. The credentials don't matter. What matters is the message. The gospel doesn't change. But it should be changing you.

As Timothy Keller said: the gospel is not only the way to enter the kingdom — it is the way to live the kingdom.

You know the gospel. But do you live it?

Paul skips his usual thanksgiving and goes straight to it: "I am astonished." The Galatians hadn't abandoned the faith — they were still in church, still calling themselves Christians. But they started thinking faith in Christ alone wasn't quite enough. Sound familiar? We love the idea of the gospel changing other people. We aren't always as enthusiastic about it changing us.

Are you changing the gospel, or is it changing you?

Paul doesn't ease into it. Right from the first sentence he plants the gospel — God the Father raised Christ Jesus from the dead. The Galatians already knew that. But they still needed to be reminded. So do we. The gospel isn't something you receive once and move on from. All Christians need to be reminded of it. All churches do.

When was the last time the gospel genuinely moved you — not just as information, but as something that changed you?
