One of the great heroes of civil rights, women’s rights, and human rights. So proud to have walked on some of the same steps as Crystal and I’m sure she was also friends with my grandmother, Ailsie Taylor Ladd.
Yesterday in Canandaigua, a new headstone for Crystal Eastman was dedicated by her descendants and celebrated by women's rights and social justice advocates. She was the daughter of the Reverends Samuel Elijah and Annis Ford Eastman who served The Park Church from 1894 to 1917. The headstone lists her accomplishments: feminist, socialist, anti militarist, lawyer, journalist & worker safety pioneer; co-founder of the ACLU, the National Woman’s Party, & the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom; co-Author of the Equal Rights Amendment. The Eastman plot #207 in Section 5M can be found in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua. It will be included soon on the Women's Rights History Trail.
