To honor and care for one’s body as an integrated part of one’s being is a practice that is rooted in compassion and attentive listening. How we relate to our bodies is about more than what we eat. It is about what we believe and how we feel. This is because we are body-mind-spirit beings.

On Wednesday, March 5, you're invited to learn from Spiritual Director Betsy Gonwa, MA, on how to use spiritual practices to achieve your own health goals. You’ll leave equipped to journey in a sustainable way toward making lasting changes for better health.

Bring a friend and come celebrate the end of another grace-filled year of Firstfruits!

So many of you responded to God’s invitations this past year to gather at the sacred space He provides at Firstfruits, join a Zoom group, or stay connected to the Firstfruits family through Joan’s blogs. As a result, our community has grown in faith, in companionship, and in love for our God. That’s something to celebrate!

Join us on Thursday, May 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Firstfruits for some prayer and some fun! For more details and to register for "A Celebration of Grace," please visit firstfruits.info/events.

In these troubling times, when the news is full of negativity and sadness, we want to bring you some good news. Here in Milwaukee, an organization called Rooted and Rising is doing great things by empowering individuals and families through supportive housing, childcare, basic needs, and community engagement.

On Wednesday, April 17, come and learn all about Rooted and Rising, including its illustrious past, its impact in the present, and the hope it fosters with its future plans. Leah Laven-Wilson, Director of Social Services of Rooted and Rising, will share about this organization and the blessing that it is for so many.

Part of our Well Time and More series, the Rooted and Rising presentation will be followed by a light lunch. For more information and to register, please visit firstfruits.info/events.

Fr. Dave Pivonka has captured new understandings of God, the Father, in his video series "My father’s Father." Every time we pray the Apostles Creed, we say, “I believe in God, the Father," or when we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we begin with "Our Father." Yet, “Who is the Father?” and more importantly, “Who is the Father, to me?”

Fr. Dave probes the relationship between our understanding of God as Father and our relationship with our own fathers. He walks us down his own personal journey with his dad, and by extension, our own dads, to unlock new understandings of our relationship with God, our Father. His insights are relevant to women as well, for it is through our dads that we receive our own feminine identities.

Join us for a six-part Lenten journey on "My father's Father." We'll meet Wednesday mornings, February 21 to March 27 on Zoom. For more information and to register, please visit firstfruits.info/events.

Imagine how much better our world would be if we all practiced mindful, compassionate communication. Are you interested in honing your communication skills? In becoming more of a mindful, compassionate communicator?

Come join us as we begin an exploration of the book, “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life” by Marshall Rosenberg. We will practice the concepts introduced in the first 6 chapters using a variety of different methodologies, such as private introspection, partner dialogs, role-playing, and interactive games.

Mindful Compassionate Communication will meet every other Thursday from January 25 to April 11 at the Firstfruits space. For more information and to register, please visit firstfruits.info/events.
