Have you ever felt as if you have thrown your life so far off course that you can never get it back on track? That you have done something SO wrong that you can never be forgiven?

You may have heard the story of Esau selling his birthright to his younger brother Jacob for a bowl of lentil soup but have you ever wondered WHY?

Esau wasn’t just a hunter - he was a GREAT hunter. One day when he was out hunting, he saw King Ni**od and two of Ni**od’s men also hunting. Ni**od was wearing magical garments that had belonged to Adam and Eve, and Esau wanted them for himself. With great skill, he ambushed the three men, ending their lives and taking the garments for himself.

He knew that when the body of Ni**od was found, a search party would be sent out for him and he made his way home as quickly as he could. When he arrived, exhausted and probably afraid, he found his brother Jacob cooking lentil soup and asked for some.

In this moment, when Jacob asked for his brother’s birthright, Esau thought he had no future. He believed he had set in motion his own demise and would have no use for his birthright as he didn’t expect to live much longer.

But vengeance never came for him. The kingdom would collapse and Esau would go on to live a very long life.

Sometimes when we are backed in a corner, tired or afraid, short on time or energy - we make decisions that haunt us. But those decisions don’t have to be a death sentence.
