If you heard the sound of the horn would you know what it means? Would you recognize it? Are you a watcher on the wall?

This doesn’t just apply to cities and kingdoms. Are you a watcher on the wall of your family? Do you sound the alarm when there is danger?

It is so easy to let cracks into the watch. It may be something small and toxic that grows and saturates your family. It can feel too big to overcome but remember - the light always wins over darkness.

No matter how long it takes, keep going.

It can be overwhelming to stop a situation in its tracks and choose a different course. But the course doesn’t change unless you do.

Establish a boundary. Stand firm. Work back to being the person you want to be with the life you want to live.

Never stop moving towards the light.

As we sit in fellowship today, a storm is brewing outside. Thunder is off in the distance and the sky is slowly getting darker. I think about how sometimes I feel like a ship at sea in the middle of a storm. A thought calls out to me: ARE YOU THE CAPTAIN?

I grew up in a culture that taught me that God is the captain. I was told He was in control of all things and I needed to let go and let god.

But that isn’t accurate.

I am the captain. I decide on a destination and plot a course. I prepare for the voyage, stock supplies, and care for everyone else onboard. Every minute, I am readjusting the course. Making decisions that impact each step of the journey.

If I’m the captain, what is my god?

He is everything.
He is the water that I move through.
He is the current that will carry me where I need to be.
He is the wind that fills the ship’s sails.
He is the sun, moon, and stars that illuminate the way.
He is the storm that takes my ship of course and sets me in a better direction.
He is the wood and metal of the ship that I stand on.
He is everything.

Sometimes we feel “stuck.” Life can get difficult. Maybe you aren’t happy at your job. Maybe your family life is demanding. Maybe you’re at a crossroads and have no idea which road to take.

Lately all of our flowers have been blooming. They have been dead and gone all winter and now splashes of color are popping up everywhere. There fragrance is a reminder that a new beginning is a breath away.

You may be in a cold season right now where things look bleak and wary. Spring is on the horizon. At times, it feels like we will never feel the sun on our faces again. Like we are frozen. The thaw is coming.

When God made a covenant that Abraham would be the father of a great nation, He didn’t fulfill that promise overnight. It would be nearly 25 years after the covenant was made before Abraham became the father of Isaac. Isaac didn’t marry Rebekah until he was 40 years old and it would be another 20 years before they were blessed with children - twin sons, Jacob and Esau.

We can’t always see the big picture so for us, the wait can be confusing. We are so used to living in a society that promotes instant gratification that we forget that some things take time.
