Our History

Union AME Church had its beginning in the late 1800’s having grown out of Parlerville AME. Church which is located in the township of Parler (n

ow known as Santee). The church was organized by a Reverend Summers along with Brothers Antley Johnson, Ezekiel Johnson and Jacob Thompson who were members of the original Board of Trustees. The overall mission of Union AME Church from its foundation was to help others; to help others that no one else would help to help themselves. Education also played a very important role in the mission of Union AME Church; in that during the 1930-40’s Union Church School was in existence and carried grades one through eight. According to information we have Union
has been served by approximately 12 Bishops, 14 presiding elders, possibly 28 or more pastors. Presently, under the very strong visionary, Pastor Lovett, with his powerfull, dynamic and effectual leadership style, Union continues to move on up. This house of worship is soon to be one of the most popular places in the Orangeburg District, the Central Conference, South Carolina and of course this nation with its various ministries which include: A Teen Ministry, Senior Lunch, Young Men of the Kingdom, its Computer Lab, Library and other Youth and Adult activities.

The Seventh Episcopal District mourns the transition of The Right Reverend Richard Franklin Norris, 116th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Norris served as the presiding prelate of the “Super Seventh” from 2012-2016. We are grateful for his life and ministry. Official information regarding his celebration are forthcoming.
