And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
-1 Timothy 3:16

St. Paul shares a short creed describing who Jesus is.

There are as many ideas about who Jesus is as there are belief systems in the world. Jesus seems to mean something different to every person. Yet there is only one Jesus, and He tells us who He is in the Holy Scriptures. Jesus says, "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39) Jesus is who He says He is. Do you believe Him?

Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and take them to heart that, by the patience and comfort of Your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. -1 Timothy 2:1-2

Pray for those in civil authority. Why? So that we might live in peace under righteous governance, that Christian worship and living might continue unrestricted, and that the Gospel might be freely proclaimed in our land.

Heavenly Father, You have established all earthly leaders and rulers in their positions of authority. Strengthen them to govern justly as they fulfill the duties of their various offices, so that we might live in peace and safety, and be free to proclaim Your word in the world; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
-1 Timothy 1:15

Be sure to accept both these sayings:
"I am a sinner."
"Jesus saved me."

Heavenly Father, we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. Forgive us for the sake of the shed blood of Your Son, that we might daily strive to live in righteous before You; trough Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,
But who can bear a broken spirit?
-Proverbs 18:14

It is important to pay attention to your health, but there comes a point when your physical wellbeing is out of your control. In those times of physical weakness, God still strengthens your spirit through the promises of His word. And when it is your spirit that is hurting, the remedy is the same. God's love for you in Christ is always there for you.

Heavenly Father, you care for all our physical and spiritual needs. Uplift our spirits each week and each day through the hearing of Your word, that we might persevere in faith in all circumstances; thorough Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the Lord.
-Proverbs 16:33

Part of being a Christian is giving up the idea that we are in control, that we are masters of our own lives. Even when things in life don't seem to be going your way, you can put your trust in God. He is the master of the universe, yet He cares for you. He loved you in this way: by sending His Son to save you.

Heavenly Father, You are in control of all things. Help us to trust You with our lives each day, that we might know the peace that comes through faith in You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
Keeping watch on the evil and the good.
-Proverbs 15:3

God is watching. He sees everything that happens in secret places. If this sounds frightening, good. We should be afraid to sin before God. But this is also a comforting prospect. God is with you at all times and cares for you in all circumstances.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You keep Your eye on us at all times. Forgive the sins we commit before Your face, that we might know the comfort of Your love and care now and always; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.”
-Colossians 4:16-17

Paul charged the church at Colossae to pay attention to the public reading of the apostolic writings. Archippus seems to be the minister charged with this responsibility.

It is good to read the Bible at home, or to meditate on short devotions like these, but if you are able, be sure also to make use of the public proclamation of the word of God in church. You are not alone. God has provided ministers and other fellow Christians in your life as a gift to help build you up in the faith.

Heavenly Father, the harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Send out, we pray, laborers into Your harvest, that many may hear Your word and believe. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
-Colossians 2:6-7
(Colossians 2:1-10)

Just as a plant grows upward from the root, we are rooted in Jesus and grow in Him. Having been established in Him, we are now called to walk in Him, that is to follow in His footsteps. Faith in Jesus comes first and good works follow.

Heavenly Father, You sent Your Son to be the way, the truth, and the life for us. Help us to remain rooted in Him through faith, that we might also do the works that You have prepared for us to do. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
