10 BAD WAYS OF REPRESENTING GOD [Part 1]

Presenting God as Unloving or Vindictive

1 John 4:8 (NIV): "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."
Ezekiel 18:23 (NIV): "Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they leave their ways and live?"

Misrepresenting God as unloving or vindictive distorts His fundamental nature. The Bible explicitly declares that "God is love" (1 John 4:8). This means that love is the driving force behind all of God's actions, including His judgments. God’s love is unconditional and selfless, and He seeks the ultimate good for His creation.

Application: This misconception can lead people to fear God in an unhealthy way, seeing Him as a tyrant rather than a loving Father. Understanding God's love as described in the Bible encourages us to trust in His goodness, even in difficult circumstances. God’s love is patient, kind, and enduring. For instance, Ezekiel 18:23 shows that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that they turn and live. This reflects His deep compassion and desire for repentance and restoration rather than punishment. Therefore, when we represent God to others, we should emphasize His love and desire for a relationship with humanity. If you are a believer, endeavor to practice this nature of God, because that is one of the ways you represent God to the people around you.

I'M TROUBLED (Part 3)
Some years back, in my local church in the city of Lagos, we had a big church program with an invited guest! After his ministration, he made an altar call, and no one would come out to accept Christ!
To save his invited guest from embarrassment (I don't know why anyone should feel embarrassed that no one comes out for the altar call after their preaching), my pastor stepped into the congregation and started sending people out, against their will, to give their lives to Christ!
Then, I heard this word from the Invited Minister when my pastor sent out a particular lady: “The way I see her, I know she has to give her life to Christ.”

I don't know how many people have been forced, against their will, to accept Christ this way too.

The soul-winning strategy where they tell you not to take a "NO" from an unbeliever will produce unconverted church members. You don't need to force Jesus on people. He does not force Himself on them either.

This thing troubles me!

I AM TROUBLED [PART 1]

I was a student at a Bible school where a "new convert" also got a scholarship to attend. It was a particular denomination's Bible school. This individual brought a proxy to assist him in writing his final exams. He was to collect the questions and answer papers, while his invited machinery would answer the questions on his behalf. They were to sit together.

This "new convert" reacted violently when a fellow student told him about the fact that it was wrong to cheat in the exam, even using a third party he brought from outside the Bible School. He took a pen and threatened to gouge out the eyes of that fellow student who disagreed with him.

Hmmmm, a new convert indeed!

We talk about the massive soul-winning we experience as a church, but I am troubled by what we use to "convince" these souls to come to Christ.

Some of these individuals come to church, but not necessarily to Christ. I thought they would change when they came in. But that transformation depends on the quality of the spiritual nourishment (messages) we give them.

My focus is not even this "new convert," but the message he responded to that made them present him as a new convert. His actions that day suggested that he was yet to meet the Lord properly.
The message we convey to the souls that we assert we win through our aggressive church growth agenda is my concern.
That message determines whether they come to Christ or they just join the numbers of the multitudes in our churches.

I am deeply troubled!
