Holy Ground Holy Space

Holy Ground Holy Space Holy Ground Holy Space provides retreats, workshops and spiritual direction for people of all faiths. It is led by the Rev. Christianne L. Exodus 3:5.

McKee, an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Spokane. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." I believe that the Holy surrounds each person and that God calls us to enter the holy ground of relationship with God and one another. Toward that end, I offer workshops and retreats for adults and youth alike on a variety of topics including prayer practices (particu

larly contemplative ones), history of the Bible, social justice and Christianity, Anglican rosaries, women's spirituality, finding your faith when religion has hurt, and use of the labyrinth as spiritual practice. I also provide spiritual direction. Spiritual direction has been likened to the ancient concept of "soul friend" or "Anam Cara." It is a professional relationship focused on helping someone explore their relationship with God, faith, prayer, and understanding of God's particular call for that person. I am also an accomplished liturgist and enjoy designing liturgy for special services as well as helping congregations enliven their liturgical practice to create holy space within the context of worship. My seminary education took place at Nashotah House and I have been a priest in the Episcopal Church for over 25 years. I am deeply rooted on the Anglican "tripod" of scripture, reason, and tradition, but I also strive to listen to the movement of the Holy Spirit in the emergent church and through active participation in inter-faith dialogue. If you are would like me to lead a workshop or retreat for your church or youth group or you would like to explore the possibility of spiritual direction, please contact me at 509-607-3217 or [email protected]

Friendship
It is only in true friendship that we can know and be known in ways that heal our sorrows and multiply our joys. Such friendship takes hard work and a level of emotional commitment not often found on a keyboard.

Sometimes I wondered if
I had any faith.
I sat down and thought about it.
And when I had had enough
of that I got up
and went on my way.
And that--the getting up
and going--was faith.

Mercy

When we see another person’s soiled hands or soiled soul, the invitation is about mercy, not purity. It’s to judge as Jesus judged: a judgment of love.

Christ must be the light that shines through you, and the people looking at you must see only Jesus. You have a challenge from Jesus to meet: He has shed the light, and you will take His light and lighten every heart you meet. —Mother-Teresa.

School Prayer
by Diane Ackerman
In the name of the daybreak
and the eyelids of morning
and the wayfaring moon
and the night when it departs,
I swear I will not dishonor
my soul with hatred,
but offer myself humbly
as a guardian of nature,
as a healer of misery,
as a messenger of wonder,
as an architect of peace.
In the name of the sun and its mirrors
and the day that embraces it
and the cloud veils drawn over it
and the uttermost night
and the male and the female
and the plants bursting with seed
and the crowning seasons
of the firefly and the apple,
I will honor all life
-wherever and in whatever form
it may dwell-on Earth my home,
and in the mansions of the stars.

Tread softly! all the earth is holy ground.
It may be, could we look with seeing eyes,
This spot we stand on is a Paradise.

- Christina Rossetti, from ‘Later Life’

Breathe in God’s Love. Stop, part your time to make space for God. Say out loud “I love you” to the names of friends & foes. Humbly ask for God’s help & the help of all around. Know nothing...

Go deeper . . .
Past thoughts into silence.
Past silence into stillness.
Past stillness into the heart.
Let Love consume all that is left of you.

Perhaps the most “spiritual” thing any of us can do is simply to look through our own eyes, see with the eyes of wholeness, and act with integrity and kindness.

Grace
Being gracious to the one who has only unkind words to say—that is grace.

Generosity to those who cannot give in return—that is grace.

Kindness to those who wish us harm—that is grace.

Going beyond what is strictly necessary into a realm of sheer possibility–grace.

-Br. Mark Brown, SSJE
