Welcome! Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday, September 6 2026

Three women. Three hours. One pair of feet.

As we closed out our Steps of Wholeness series, Dr. Kaury told the true story of a man who came through a feeding ministry line with feet in terrible shape, and two women and a teenage girl who knelt down and spent three hours cleaning them, tending the wounds, and sending him off with new shoes, clean socks, a trim, and a shave. Watch what happened when he stood back up.

"Not symbolically. They literally were the hands and feet of Jesus that day."

Who has been the hands and feet of Jesus for you? And who might be waiting for you to be that for them?

Tomorrow we begin Already Alive, a new 7-week journey through Ephesians. Come be part of it from day one, 9:00 AM or 10:55 AM, Elkin First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Rd, Elkin, NC. We'd love to have you.

"Wholeness was never meant to just stay in this building."

As we closed our 12-week Steps of Wholeness series, Dr. Kaury said something we all needed to hear: if everything we learned this summer just made us feel good for an hour on Sunday, we missed the point entirely. This whole series was never about a prettier-looking faith. It was about becoming disciples for the transformation of the world.

So here's the question heading into this Sunday: where in your life this week did your faith actually leave the building? And if it didn't, what's one place you could take it this coming week?

This Sunday we're starting Already Alive, an 7-week journey through Ephesians, and we'd love for you to be part of it from week one. Join us at 9:00 AM or 10:55 AM, Elkin First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Rd, Elkin, NC.

"It's selfishness wearing holiness like a costume."

That's how Dr. Kaury described a faith that never leaves the pew. John Wesley, our denomination's founder, put it this way: "The gospel of Christ knows no religion but social, no holiness but social holiness." In other words, if your faith isn't showing up in how you love your neighbor, something's missing.

We've all put our foot in our mouth. We've all been through something. The question is whether we come out the other side hardened, or with our hearts still open.

What's one thing that's ever cracked your heart open instead of closing it off? We'd love to have you wrestle with questions like this alongside us. Join us this Sunday, 9:00 AM or 10:55 AM, 340 Hawthorne Rd, Elkin, NC, as we begin a brand new series, Already Alive, walking through the book of Ephesians together.

Tonight, something is beginning at Elkin First United Methodist Church.

Come hungry, both for supper and for something deeper. Dinner church starts at 5:45 PM, a table where everyone has a seat and a story is always welcome. Then at 6:30 PM, head upstairs to the parlor as we begin "Revival: Faith as Wesley Lived It," a six week study by Adam Hamilton that traces the life of John Wesley across the English countryside where the Methodist movement was born.

This one is close to Dr. Kaury's heart. This past May he walked those same streets and chapels on a Wesley Heritage pilgrimage, and he has been waiting for the right moment to bring what he saw and felt there back to this congregation. This study is that moment. Wesley's story is our story. It shaped the faith we practice every Sunday, and it still has something to say to us now, about what it means to have our hearts strangely warmed and our lives set on fire for God.

You do not need to have been to dinner church before. You do not need to have read a page of the book yet. Copies are $15 in the church office, but come anyway even if you show up empty handed. Bring a friend. Bring your questions. Come expecting revival.

"I promise you we're not all that way."

If church has ever hurt you, or you've written off "religious people" because of how you were treated, Dr. Kaury wants you to hear this clip from our Steps of Wholeness finale. He doesn't dodge it. He owns it: "We're all jacked up. We're all messed up. We're all broken."

But that's not where the gospel leaves us.

What would it look like if church became a place known for grace instead of judgment? For you, has church ever felt more like condemnation than kindness? This Sunday we're kicking off a brand new series called Already Alive, and we'd love for grace, not judgment, to be the first thing you experience with us. Join us at 9:00 AM or 10:55 AM at Elkin First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Rd, Elkin, NC.

What a joy this is to share! This past Sunday, August 30, we celebrated the baptism of Wyatt and welcomed his mother Mary into membership at Elkin First United Methodist Church! 🎉💧

Wyatt, we celebrate you today! In baptism, God claims you, God’s grace goes before you, and this church family makes a covenant with you and with God to nurture you in the faith all the days of your life. You are marked as Christ’s own forever. Mary, we are so grateful you have chosen to make your church home with us, and we cannot wait to see how God continues to work in your life and the life of your family.

To God be the glory for new life, new beginnings, and new members of the body of Christ! Please join us in celebrating this wonderful family. 🙌❤️

Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, August 23, 2026

Here is where Sermon 11 of Steps of Wholeness lands. The question was never whether God is present. God always is. The real question is whether we are present to God.

We are not trying to close a gap between us and God. We are learning to notice a nearness that was never in question.

So here is what Pastor Kaury asked our congregation, and what we are asking you. Where might you be practicing religion without actually encountering the Spirit? Where have the practices gone quiet and routine? Where might God be closer than you think, just waiting for you to stop long enough to listen?

We would love to keep asking that question together this Sunday, at 9:00 AM or 10:55 AM. 340 Hawthorne Rd, Elkin, NC 28621. Can't make it in person? Join us live on Facebook. New to Elkin First United Methodist Church? Start at www.elkinfumc.org. Come be Pastor Kaury's personal guest.
