🍬 CANDY DONATIONS NEEDED! 🍬

Our annual Trunk or Treat is coming up on Saturday, October 31 from 4:30–6:30 PM at Elkin First United Methodist Church — and we need LOTS of candy to fill those trunks! 🎃🚗

If you're able to donate a bag (or two!) of individually wrapped candy, please drop it off at the church office by Thursday, October 29. Every bag helps us make this a sweet night for the kids in our community. Thank you for always showing up for our children! 🧡

Join us Oct 31 for trunk-or-treating, live music, and our "Anything But A Pumpkin" Contest — free and open to everyone!

🌚 Two nights from now, we’re talking about the dark.

This Thursday, October 22nd at 6:00 PM, Sip & Story: A Community Book Club gathers at Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery to discuss Learning to Walk in the Dark by Barbara Brown Taylor.

Barbara Brown Taylor is one of the most beloved writers in American Christianity — and this book is her most personal. She makes a case that the church has been too afraid of darkness, and that some of the most important things God does happen when the lights go out.

It is a book for anyone who has ever felt spiritually dry. For anyone sitting with doubt. For anyone who has wondered where God was in a hard season.

Come for the conversation. Stay for the w**e. 🍷

You don’t have to have finished the book to join us.

Most of us are waiting for the dramatic moment. The crisis that breaks everything open. The overnight experience that changes us for good.

And sometimes that happens. But more often, Paul shows us something quieter and more demanding than that.

Transformation happens in small, gradual, daily decisions. Choosing truth instead of avoidance. Choosing kindness instead of selfishness. Choosing forgiveness instead of resentment. Choosing patience instead of reaction. One small yes at a time to the life of Christ that is already alive inside of you.

This past Sunday at Elkin First United Methodist Church, Rev. Dr. Kaury Edwards offered a reframe that is worth carrying into your week:

Grace does not mean you need to change. Grace means change is possible — because Christ truly lives in you.

Paul is not writing to skeptics in Ephesians 4. He is writing to people who already believe. People who already attend and worship and lead.

And he is still saying: if you are alive in Christ, your life will begin to look different.

Not instantly. Not perfectly. But visibly.

This past Sunday, Rev. Dr. Kaury Edwards reminded the congregation at Elkin First United Methodist Church that Paul knows this question from the inside. He lived it. He wrestled with his own thorn in the side that never fully went away. And he still wrote these words — not as an accusation but as a promise. Growth will become visible in the way you live.

That is what week five of Already Alive was about. And there is more to come.
