MERCY + TRUTH
Proverbs 3:3 is integral to biblical life and faith.
“ 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:” KJV
Jim - this is what the devil is attacking in the hearts of Believers and Churches all over the world.
Think of a Teeter Totter…
If a church (or person) is heavy on MERCY, at the expense of TRUTH, the Mercy side of the teeter totter will be heavy down on the ground while TRUTH, on the other side, will be ignored for it is up high pie in the sky.
[Then you have grave imbalance. You have inclusion of all. Compassion, kindness, acceptance, no judgment of any kind.
The Open and Affirming church! (Come in! LGBTQ…. Plus you are loved and never judged. In fact all life is celebrated!) God saves everyone!!]
This is the FALSE CHURCH and there are wolves.
If the person/ church is heavy on TRUTH yet mercy is left high on the teeter totter up in the cloudy air, there will be anger, guilt conviction, fear of messing up, heavy accusation and ruff, crude, and mean picketing of places like abortion clinics, etc. —Another FALSE CHURCH.
If Mercy and Truth are found separate and out of balance, the devil has a hay day and many souls will step blindly onto the brightly lit, broad, and well paved highway to Hell.
I call it the welcoming bus to Damnation.
Only as we are emptied of self and sin are we ready to be filled with the Holy Spirit (D. L. Moody-SECRET POWER)1
A great example of Proverbs 3:3 in the New Testament is when Jesus is faced with the woman caught in the act…. John 8:1-11. ESV
“1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst
4 they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.
5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.
9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”]]
First MERCY
Then TRUTH.
They are never to be found separate or in gross teeter totter imbalance.
