Love these words from the Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt, our denomination's leader.

I hold a vision for Unitarian Universalism that offers a welcoming, non-threatening invitation for all of us to live in ways that are counter cultural to society at the moment – to place ideals such as compassion, mutual aid, justice, and ethical interdependence at the heart of how we make decisions, how we grow in our faith, and what we model to the world.

What if this living were our everyday practice? What if we were to live inspired by the things we collectively hold most dear in our liberal and liberating tradition?

For me, this lightens the challenge of these times and provides resources for combatting despair. Such an invitation reminds me that I am never alone and that by my living I make room for someone else to thrive.

Something to get us all excited for General Assembly this summer!

The Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde—an Episcopal bishop and the first woman elected to serve as Bishop of Washington, D.C.—has been announced as the 2026 Ware Lecturer at Unitarian Universalist Association General Assembly.

Budde gained national attention in 2025 when, during a prayer service at Washington National Cathedral, she asked President Trump to have mercy on transgender children and immigrant families—reminding the nation that “the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals” and calling people of faith to courage and compassion.

She has continued that public witness, joining multifaith clergy in Minneapolis earlier this year to protest violence targeting immigrant communities.

The Ware Lecture will take place Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m. EDT as part of GA 2026: Meet the Moment—Together Everywhere.

Our Unitarian Universalist faith tradition places love at the center.
We’ve heard the call by Minnesotans.
We side in solidarity with their struggle.
We condemn the continued violence by Federal Agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In her reflection, “Because I Love,” UU Rev. Vanessa Titang speaks to the reality so many of us are living right now: fear held beside courage, heartbreak held beside hope, and the deep desire to stay connected to love even when the world makes that feel impossible.

Rev. Titang names the weight of these times and reminds us that our emotions are valid — and that we can move through them without letting hate take hold.

💛 May we keep holding one another and refuse to give up, even in these heavy times.
