After the exiles returned from Babylon, the walls of Jerusalem were still in ruin. They needed to be rebuilt. When Nehemiah, who served the Persian king, heard this, he wept. Then he set out to do just that - rebuild. Yet it wasn't just a wall that needed rebuilding. The people's spiritual life needed rebuilding too. So the book of Nehemiah follows him in that process.

Our church building is not broken nor are we actively looking to do a building project. However we often see the cracks in ourselves and our lives together, the chips where something is lacking among us, the areas where we just need to grow and be built up, even the places where we are just broken. We always strive to keep rebuilding spiritually as a congregation. It's an ongoing process that we have the opportunity to do together. In our next worship series beginning this coming Sunday, we will walk with Nehemiah. As he works to rebuild Jerusalem’s wall and his people's spiritual life, we seek to rebuild together for the present and the future.

Wherever faith clings to the promises of God, doubt is always lingering. Doubt asks the serpent's garden question, "Did God really say?" People doubt God's care, God's promises, and God's working in the world. When we encounter storms in our own life, we often find ourselves sinking and drowning in our own doubts. The answer to that doubt is not found in loud, dramatic demonstrations of anger and frustration. The true answer to doubt is found in the still small voice of our Savior God whispering in his Word. Through Word and sacrament, Jesus reaches out to us with nail-scarred hands, proof of his great love. Join us this Sunday as we think more about what anchors us so that we answer all our doubts with faith.

Just so you are aware as you come to church this Sunday. While the road is not closed by the church, you may have to detour around a little to get there.

A NOTE ON HIGHWAY10/UPLAND/COUNTY ROAD 44 CONSTRUCTION:

Utility construction work on County Road 44 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and Upland Avenue is expected to continue until July 31. Detours are posted west of Upland for eastbound traffic; detours are posted east of Proctor for westbound traffic.
Traffic on Highway 10 will be routed north at Proctor and Highway 10.
Traffic on Elk Lake Road will be routed south on County Road 44. Traffic accessing County Road 44 from Elk Lake Road will have access to Highway 10.
There will be intermittent lane closures within the County Road 44 project from Highway 10 to Elk Lake Road that will have internal flagging operations that will not affect the access noted at Highway 10 and Upland Avenue.
All traffic on County Road 44 will be able to drive south to the Upland Avenue and Highway 10 intersection.
