Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12) – An unfulfilled expectation can sicken us physically, and extrapolating, hope suddenly destroyed can cause a grave impact; but nothing infuses life like a fulfilled desire; therefore, we should delight ourselves in the Lord so that He may establish our desires (Psalms 37:4).

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” (Proverbs 13:11) – When wealth comes to one who has not labored to earn it, or when one acquires it by some means of deception, it will almost certainly diminish rapidly; but when material gain comes by honest labor, more often than not there is a propensity for it to increase.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” (Proverbs 13:10) – In quarrels between men, pride is almost certainly at the heart for one party, if not both, but this is surely true for the one who instigates strife with intentionality; but godly counsel is a wise man’s defense against a prideful belligerent, perhaps even preventing the conflict from ever occurring.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.” (Proverbs 13:9) – One who has internalized wisdom will reflect the joyous light of He who is the source of all light and joy, which will manifest not only to the man himself but to others around him; conversely, the wicked will become obscure and morose, manifesting a profound melancholy.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.” (Proverbs 13:8) – The wealth of this world may serve only to pay the thief’s demands in the day of trouble, so it is not as enviable to be rich as one might suppose; but the poor are often ignored because it is presupposed that they have nothing of value. Such is the fickleness of temporal treasures.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.” (Proverbs 13:7) – The paradox lies in perception: one who appears to be rich but is saddled with debt is actually poor by virtue of a negative net value; but one who lives within the means of God’s providence may seem poor outwardly but has reserves to use as God leads.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 13

Family Bible Time Thought:

“Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.” (Proverbs 13:6) – Those who internalize biblical wisdom, are kept on the right path by that righteous knowledge and are guarded against that which easily overthrows (casts over, destroys) the sinner; but foolish choices leave one without this protection, thus facilitating their downfall.
