Community Food Shelf

Community Food Shelf Providing emergency or supplemental food assistance to people in our local area. Gifts can be mailed to PO Box 146, Elizabethtown NY 12932

Each year, the Community Food Shelf distributes over 20,000 lbs of food to over 1,100 people in our local communities.

30 volunteers work to maintain the food shelf and serve those who rely on food assistance.

40% of the budget is funded by grants from the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, The Charles Wood Foundation and Stewart's Shops. The remainder is due to the generosity of local businesses, civic groups and community members.

On December 22nd, volunteers of the Community Food Shelf assembled and distributed 65 Christmas food baskets to area families.
The baskets contained a turkey or a ham, fresh vegetables, fruit, coffee, milk, dessert and all the trimmings for a Christmas dinner.

This was made possible by the donation of food items, monetary contributions and volunteer time. Thank you to those generous hearts who played a part in “neighbors helping neighbors”.

ELIZABETHTOWN | Despite blustery cold weather and slush-filled roads, members of the Elizabethtown NY Kiwanis filed into the Community Food Shelf on William Street last Wednesday with a $2,000 check donation.

Thank you to everyone who has made generous donations to the food shelf in recent weeks. This is a very important time, and we appreciate your compassion and assistance.

While all donations are appreciated, it's important to note that monetary gifts go MUCH further than product donations - the food shelf is able to purchase food at a significant discount.

Many people have asked how to make a monetary donation. Checks are accepted - they should be made payable to "Community Food Shelf."

Boquet Valley CSD is assisting students and their families in need. Reach out if your family needs a little help during this uncertain time. Please e-mail the school lunch manager directly - email is included in the post.

As SNAP benefits this month are up in the air, our school cafeterias are looking to help out. At the end of every week, the cafeteria almost always has extras, and the team will put together care packages to send home for families who need support through this transition. Our goal is to ensure that no student goes without.

We will be keeping food safety as a top priority.

Any family that would like to sign up for this free benefit, please email School Lunch Manager Barrett Miller at [email protected]
