Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

Ruth, the picture of total dedication, total submission to God’s will. Her and Naomi had lost everything, their husbands are dead, Orpah has returned to her family, and so Naomi pleads with Ruth to return to hers. But v14 states “but Ruth clave unto her”. Ruth was not going to abandon Naomi. All they had were each other and God, and that was enough. The Book of Ruth is truly a beautiful story of kinship and love, of God’s blessing thru what seems like hopelessness, even giving us a picture of the kinsman-redeemer, as Boaz is a type of Christ our Redeemer. Yet it all starts with v16-17, where Ruth pleads with Naomi not to send her away, but to allow her to be her traveling companion, her daughter-in-law, her friend. Ruth is an example for every believer in how dedicated we should be to the Lord. Ruth tells Naomi where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay; your people will be my people; your God my God; your final resting place my final resting place. And truly we believers should go where God leads, minister where God says minister, let His people be our people, submit and obey Him as we seek His will, and live our lives unto Him til we draw our last breath. Such determination to be a blessing and a pleasure to her mother-in-law; as followers of Christ our determination should match Ruth’s and more. We simply need to humble ourselves before Him and like Ruth say “I will…”

Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Here we have one of the first types of the Rapture of the church in the Bible. Enoch was a faithful man of God, a believer. He walked with God. He walked a worthy walk with God, walking in love, walking in light, in wisdom and truth as the Apostle Paul instructs believers in the book of Ephesians. Yet notice what the last part of the verse says. "Enoch was not; for God took him". Before God destroyed the earth with the flood, pouring out judgement for mankind’s sin, Enoch was caught up, taken by God. Whisked away to heaven above without tasting death. Just as the church will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air at the time of the Rapture before the Day of the Lord, the time of Jacob’s Troubles, the Great Tribulation. The time when God pours out fiery judgment upon the world in the end times. Yet believers are not appointed to wrath but unto salvation, rescue, thus those who are alive at His coming will be transformed in the twinkling of an eye as they are caught up, along with those who have passed already, God will bring their spirits with Him and they too will receive resurrected bodies as we all are gathered together to forever be with the Lord.

What a privilege for God to rescue us from such a terrible time upon this earth, and the only way any of us have that privilege is thru salvation by grace thru faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. So my question to you, if Christ returns to call His church home, will you be taken, will you be a “was not”, or will you be left behind to face the judgment just as so many were left behind in the days of Noah and perished under the waters? If you are not sure you will taken by God, today would be a wonderful day to get that settled.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

We each must recognize we are sinful men and women. There is not one upon the entire earth who is without sin. There are none who are wholly righteous. There are none who do wholly good in the sight of God. No matter how hard one may try, no matter the effort, no matter our desire or the power of the will, being incased in this sinful flesh, we are all sinners before a holy and righteous God. We are fallen creatures, falling short of God’s glory. There are none that do good, no, not one. We then read in 1John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
But the good news is, once we realize our sinful state, our problem of sin, it is then we can look for the solution. For if we do not realize there is a problem why would we need to search for an answer? The answer for our sin is of course being saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who paid our sin debt upon the cross of Calvary so that we could be free. He is the one who gave His life so that we may have life. He is the one who conquered death and the grave so that we may have the victory. Christ Jesus was the only man who was just upon the earth, who done much good and sinned not. For He was not just a mere man, He was God in the flesh, who died and arose from the grave for you because He loves you and for your justification. So my question to you, have you placed your faith in this Jesus? The one who gave all to save you from your wretchedness? If not, today would be a wonderful day to change that.
