We are a body of believers, Pentecostal in nature, Apostolic in doctrine. Preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, according to Acts 2:38. What it means to be Apostolic:
The word apostolic refers to the original apostles chosen by Jesus during his ministry, to carry on His ministry after His death. Being apostolic refers to being a student of the apostles’ teachings or doctrine; following the apost
les’ doctrine or creed; following the apostles as they followed Christ. The apostles were followers of Jesus, as we are taught to be followers of Jesus through the writings and teaching of the apostles as they ministered to the early church. The apostles were taught by Jesus and commanded to “feed my sheep”. We, as followers of Christ, are taught in scripture to be as Christ in all ways possible. Our understanding of scripture should be inspired of the Holy Ghost, as were the original apostles and writers of scripture. The pastor or shepherd (preacher/teacher) should be inspired by the Holy Ghost to lead His sheep as Jesus taught the apostles. Being apostolic to me means first of all to be a follower of Christ (a Christian), through repentance and baptism for the forgiveness of sin and receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Secondly, to follow the teachings to “be ye holy, as I am Holy”. We are taught holiness through scripture, prayer and supplication. Being apostolic to me means being faithful to God, faithful to church, faithful to family, faithful to one another and faithful to our own selves. We are to love God and to be an example of God’s love to others, to be a light to others as Jesus is the light of the world. The world most often thinks or refers to being apostolic or pentecostal as being a group of fanatics or people who dress and look different than most Christians do. We are taught in scripture to “be ye a separate people” and to avoid the things of the world. This can cause a misunderstanding between the world and apostolics and often even among apostolics themselves. As the world evolves, a lot of churches believe they must evolve also, but we should understand that the old paths were paved with blood, prayer, and tears. These paths don’t have to be re-paved or re-routed. Being apostolic means having a heritage of holiness that has been taught through the Word down through the ages. The Word of God is true and it stands as strong today as it ever has.
