Along the Little Kanawha River in Wirt County, the mission church was established for Catholic's in the area in 1977. The mission was named after St. Elizabeth of Hungary a queen in title, but a humble servant of God by choice. Although she was privileged, Elizabeth chose to live a simple life and dedicated much of her time to helping the underprivileged. The mission church building was dedicated

on March 19, 1985, a special moment for the diocese, because now it had a Catholic presence in every county of the state. The mission is part of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Spencer and part of the Parkersburg Vicariate. Mission Administrator is Rev. Ramababu Dakkamadugula, H.G.N.; and Miss Catherine Shoemaker (Diocesan Consecrated Virgin) serves as the Pastoral Associate.

Bishop Mark Brennan is calling the faithful in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to observe Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, as a day of fasting and prayer for peace and justice in our world especially in Ukraine and the Holy Land.
This day precedes the special collection to be held at all Masses in the diocese on Sept. 6-7 for Gaza Relief.
Both are a sign of our solidarity with the Church offering both spiritual and material support.
Let us open our hearts generously and compassionately in prayer and fasting, mindful of all traumatized and displaced by war. Let us invoke the intercession of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, to take our prayers to her son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of Peace.
