“He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”) Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭10‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We wish our regular speaker prayers of healing this morning. With his absence one of the leaders of our Congregation (Allen Banks) gave us an excellent insight on the importance of communicating with the Lord using the example of sports.

(Paraphrasing) “We meet on Sundays for a very special meeting with others on our team, it’s like the huddle before the play. We have to listen in the huddle for his word, and then remember and stay focused to bring it out into the world. The impact we have is to be a part of the Lords work. We have to listen, and follow through. In this world, communication and our focus, is disrupted and distracted by everything else. So when we come to the “huddle” of our church services, we have to be ready to listen to the Lord speak to us and act upon the Holy Spirits nudges in our hearts and lives.“

Our scripture lesson today was Luke 18:9-14 the parable of the tax collector and the sinner.

To continue the lesson with sports metaphor; we have to remain humble and honest with ourselves, to be more confident about ourselves than the truth of where we are is to lift us above our Lord. Being the quarterback who showboats is not the one concerned with the game that God is trying to win. We must remain faithful, humble and be more concerned with where we are in our relationship with God and our own life, than in how well we are doing compared to others.

Faith we often think it starts with trust, but it often starts with need, mercy. This scripture lesson teaches us how our need, true desperation can be the beginning of good faith, thanksgiving and trust in Jesus. Are you one of the 9 or the one who comes back to thank him for his blessings? We should show more gratitude for our daily blessings in our Savior. This is a reminder for each of us how to receive the blessing and favor of Christ. Even in the midst of trials, we have to remember the gift of mercy we have been receiving.

Scripture Lesson for worship this Sunday morning. Luke 18:1-8 “Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up. There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect people. And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, Give me justice against my adversary. For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice so that she doesn’t wear me out by her persistent coming. Then the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says. Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them? I tell you that he will swiftly grant then justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith in earth?”

This parable is about how Faith endures in a world that feels unjust and slow to change. Persistent faith is true discipleship. This is about daily practice of faith, even when it seems like you aren’t getting anywhere. It’s not about nagging until you get your way, through the Lord or people. It is the daily submission of obedience in faith.

Let us be brave in faith with our voices the way the widow in this parable was.

Practice intentional humility. Acknowledge others contributions before your own. Pay attention to your table and the way they interact. Give generously and make hospitality a ministry in itself. Resist the urge for immediate recognition. Live your life in peace with Jesus in humility. Not trying to be the one who has status. Remember the example that Jesus left behind, washing the disciples feet. Follow his example, be open to the lost and least. Be humble.
Matthew 25:31-40

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
