Friends Saving Pitts Chapel AME Zion Church in Elizabeth City This church was founded by slaves and family members of slaves. It became an African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AME Zion) church in 1890.

Families of the original members are mounting a campaign to restore this church as a historical memorial.
