A new training program at Germantown Church of the Brethren in Philadelphia is helping equip individuals for leadership and ministry in their congregations.

Building and Empowering Lay Leadership (B.E.L.L.) brings together learning in the Bible and theology with family life, church vitality, worship, preaching, leadership, and more, with particular attention to ministry in urban and culturally diverse communities.

The two-year program is open to lay leaders from Church of the Brethren and other congregations.

More than 60 people gathered at Brethren Woods Camp & Retreat Center in Virginia last month for Shenandoah District’s first-ever District Older Adult Camp.

With the theme “A Way in the Wilderness,” the three days included worship and Bible study, workshops, service projects, music, time outdoors, and plenty of fellowship. The gathering offered space to reflect on God’s presence and faithfulness through the seasons of life.

Our fall quarter of Salt & Light: A Guide for Biblical Studies is shipping now!

Salt & Light: A Guide for Biblical Studies is a new quarterly Bible study guide published by Brethren Press and MennoMedia, blending the quarterlies from the two publishers. This Bible study uses the same Bible outlines as before, and includes suggestions for group study.

Frank Ramirez is the writer for the fall quarter, titled The Soul of a Nation. Salt & Light is also available in Spanish in a digital format as Sal y Luz.

Church of the Brethren staff spent a few days together this week for worship, fellowship, and conversation. The annual staff retreat also included time to discuss ministry priorities and practice design thinking as another way to approach ministry questions collaboratively across program areas.
