Your Holy Family Proclaiming the good news about God's plan for family life. The Mission of the Family is to Guard Reveal and Communicate Love - JPII FC

Your Holy Family Ministry supports parents in their mission to build a family of Joy, united in Faith, which reflects the Love of God to our world through programs and resources, designed to enable families to grow closer to each other and closer to the Lord. Your Holy Family programs seek to guide families to the vision of St. John Paul II by teaching families “to guard, reveal, and communicate l

ove” through family prayer and family play that builds a ministry of presence in the home and seeks to build community with other Catholic families as well as becoming a family that gives witness to the Faith.

There are four keys to parental success during early adolescence:

The first is understanding. Parents must realize that the needs of a child are changing radically during the early teen years. Socially, the peer group is becoming more important, both as a source of approval and a source of values. For better or worse, the young teen begins pulling away from family and identifying more with his own generation.

The second key is a combination of tolerance and accommodation. Tolerance because early adolescence is rarely permanent. Accommodation because the radical changes taking place during this critical developmental period necessitate equally radical changes in how parents respond to their children. Oftentimes, the child's accelerating need for freedom catches parents off guard, and they react by hanging vainly onto a style of child rearing that no longer works.

The third is communication. Parents must be willing to listen to this age child, even when he makes no sense; to listen to his fears, expressions of insecurity, hopes, ideas, and opinions; to listen to his many complaints and to reflect the majority of their moanings and groanings back to them in an accepting, nonjudgmental way.

The fourth is interest. There is no better antidote to the potential pitfalls of peer pressure than parents who are interested. Take the time to ask questions, to listen, to participate. It's one of the best investments you can make in your child's future.

In light of recent events in western North Carolina I am sharing an article I wrote a few years back on suffering. It is a constant presence in life so what do we do with it and how do we help our family navigate it?

Trials and sufferings are a part of life, we can either take up our cross and follow Jesus or run from the cross and the Lord, the choice is ours. Jesus told us He is the way, the truth and the life and He offers to make our burdens light and to bring about good from our suffering.
