The church office was invaded by an alligator today.

I went to considerable efforts to help him find the door. Unfortunately, my efforts were in vain. He didn’t move the entire time, which I initially interpreted as passive aggression, or possibly mockery. He turned out to be dead.

The runway to freedom ended up being a funeral procession runway. So now we commend him to the care of the Creator of all creatures great and small. 🌈🦎✝️

Late on posting, but still worth reading!

For the Week of April 19th

All you need is love - a phrase that is so familiar to us that it almost seems trite. But 1 Peter reminds us that love is our greatest calling. Love is a practice that requires imagination, hope, and generosity. Our discussion centered around this struggle to embrace a posture of hope and thus practice a generous love. We unpacked how, for many of us, our current default is stress, worry, and confusion. How do we embrace hope when we see chaos everywhere we look? Firstly, we are not alone. When we struggle to embrace hope, we have each other as a support system to help us grow our imagination. After all, how often is it easier to see the way forward for someone else's situation but for our own lives, it feels like we are standing in front of a brick wall? The collective naturally exercises our ability to imagine a new way forward. Secondly, while our call is to love big and generously, our circle of influence is often small. With whom can we soften our hearts and thoughts? In what situations can we practice listening and empathy? Where can we serve others, even when someone else could (or should) take responsibility for the job? The ripples of our love for each other has the potential to spread far and wide. And love is truly what we need - from God, for God, from each other, and for each other.
