Day 2: A Kingdom-Focused Prayer

Scripture: Matthew 6:10a
“Your kingdom come...”

Devotional:

Jesus teaches us to begin prayer by focusing on God's kingdom rather than our own desires. The kingdom of God is His rule, reign, and authority. When we pray, “Your kingdom come,” we are inviting God to work in our hearts, families, churches, communities, and world.

This prayer shifts our perspective. Instead of asking God to bless our plans, we ask Him to accomplish His purposes. Kingdom-minded prayer develops hearts that long for what God longs for and value what He values.

As believers, we become participants in God's kingdom work. Every act of love, service, evangelism, forgiveness, and obedience reflects the reality of God's kingdom breaking into our world.

Reflection Questions:
- What areas of my life am I holding onto instead of surrendering to God's rule?
- How can I seek God's kingdom more intentionally this week?
- Where do I see God's kingdom at work around me?

Prayer:
Father, let Your kingdom come in my heart, my home, and my community. Help me desire what You desire and seek Your purposes above my own. Use me to reflect Your kingdom wherever I go. Amen.

Week three of devotionals preparing our hearts during the summer prayer to come before God with expectation and humility.

Day 1: Honoring the Father
Scripture Focus:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” (Matthew 6:9)

Devotional:
Jesus begins His model prayer by directing our attention to God—not our needs. Before asking for anything, we are invited to recognize who God is. He is our Father, loving and personal, yet He is also holy and worthy of reverence.
Prayer becomes powerful when we start with worship. When we pause to honor God's name, our perspective shifts. Our worries become smaller, and God's greatness becomes clearer. We are reminded that we are not approaching a distant ruler but a caring Father who welcomes His children into His presence.

Reflection Questions:
How do you normally begin your prayers?
What attributes of God can you praise today?
How does knowing God as Father affect your prayer life?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. Help me honor Your name in my words, thoughts, and actions today. May my heart be filled with worship as I remember Your goodness and holiness. Amen.

Challenge:
Spend five minutes today simply praising God without asking Him for anything.

Day 5 — Your Kingdom Come
Scripture:
“Your kingdom come…” — Matthew 6:10

Devotional:
Prayer is not just about inviting God into our plans—it is about surrendering to His kingdom. When Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come,” He was teaching us to desire God’s rule and reign above our own preferences. This prayer changes us. It aligns our hearts with God’s heart.

We live in a world filled with brokenness, pain, injustice, and fear. Every time we pray for God’s kingdom to come, we are asking Him to bring hope, healing, salvation, peace, and restoration.

We are also asking God to reign in our own lives:In our homes. In our decisions. In our relationships. In our hearts.

Reflection:
What area of your life needs to be surrendered to God’s kingdom?

Prayer:
King Jesus, let Your kingdom come in my life and in this world. Help me live in a way that reflects Your love, truth, and grace. Amen.

Day 4 - "Hallowed be your name"

Scripture:
Gospel of Matthew Matthew 6:9
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”

Devotion:
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He did not begin with requests. He began with relationship.

The prayer opens with two powerful words: “Our Father.”
God invites us to come to Him personally, intimately, and confidently. He is not distant or disconnected. He is a loving Father who knows us, welcomes us, and cares for every detail of our lives.

But Jesus also reminds us that He is “in heaven.”
God is near, yet holy. Personal, yet powerful. Loving, yet sovereign over all creation. Prayer is not casual conversation with just anyone—it is communion with the King of Heaven.

Before we ask for anything, Jesus teaches us to pause and worship:
“Hallowed be Your name.”
To hallow God’s name means to honor Him, revere Him, and recognize His holiness. Prayer begins when our hearts turn upward in awe and surrender.

This Summer of Prayer starts with a simple truth:
Prayer is not first about getting something from God—it is about knowing Him.

Reflection:
What does it mean to you personally that God is your Father?
How does remembering God’s holiness change the way you pray?
Have your prayers become more focused on requests than relationship?
Prayer

Father in Heaven,
Thank You for inviting me into relationship with You. Teach me to approach You with both confidence and reverence. Let my heart honor Your name above everything else. Draw me closer to You during this Summer of Prayer, and help me know You more deeply each day.
Amen.

Day 3 is a day late... sorry. Keep praying and preparing your heart for the day.

Day 3 — Prayer Is About Presence, Not Perfection
Scripture:
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases…” — Matthew 6:7

Devotional:
Jesus warned against meaningless repetition and praying for show. God is not impressed by long speeches or religious performance. He desires genuine hearts.
Sometimes we avoid prayer because we feel inadequate. We think we do not know enough or say enough. But prayer is not about perfection—it is about presence.
God wants your real thoughts, real fears, real gratitude, and real questions. The power of prayer is not found in eloquent words but in the God who listens.
Prayer can be simple:ďż˝
“God, I need You.”
“Father, thank You.”
“Lord, help me.”
The beauty of prayer is that God hears sincere hearts.

Reflection:
What keeps you from praying honestly with God?

Prayer:
Lord, remove the pressure to pray perfectly. Teach me to come to You openly and sincerely. Help me value Your presence more than polished words. Amen.
