Have you ever found yourself facing temptation and wondered why Jesus taught us to pray, “Lead us not into temptation”?

This simple line in the Lord’s Prayer carries more meaning and power than many of us realize. What was Jesus really teaching us? And how can this prayer help us navigate the daily battles we all face?

Day 5 - Lead Us Not Into Temptation
Scripture: Matthew 6:13

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” — Matthew 6:13

As Jesus teaches His followers how to pray, He reminds us that prayer is not only about seeking God's provision and forgiveness—it is also about seeking His protection. In Matthew 6:13, we acknowledge our dependence on God in the daily spiritual battles we face.

Temptation is a reality for every believer. It can come through pride, anger, fear, selfish desires, discouragement, or anything that draws our hearts away from God. Jesus is not teaching us to pray because God tempts us; rather, He is teaching us to recognize our need for His guidance and strength so that we do not fall when temptation comes.

This prayer is an act of humility. It is admitting that we are not strong enough on our own and that we need God's wisdom, discernment, and power every day. When we ask God to "deliver us from evil," we are declaring our trust in Him as our protector and refuge. He sees dangers we cannot see and provides strength when we feel weak.

The good news is that God never leaves us to fight alone. He promises to provide a way through temptation and to be faithful in every trial. As we pray today, we can confidently place ourselves under His care, knowing that He is able to guard our hearts and lead us in His ways.

Reflection Questions
- What temptations or spiritual struggles am I facing right now?
- Have I been relying on my own strength rather than God's help?
- How can I intentionally seek God's guidance before facing today's challenges?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I recognize my need for You today. Lead me away from anything that would draw me from Your will and strengthen me to resist temptation. Protect my mind, guard my heart, and deliver me from evil. Help me walk in wisdom, obedience, and dependence on Your Spirit. Thank You for Your faithfulness and protection. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 4 - Living in the Freedom of Forgiveness

Scripture: Matthew 6:12–14 - and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.

Forgiveness is one of God's greatest gifts. Through Christ, we are forgiven, restored, and welcomed into fellowship with Him. Because we have received such grace, we are empowered to extend it to others.

A life marked by forgiveness becomes a powerful testimony. In a world that often values retaliation, believers demonstrate the character of Christ when they choose mercy. Forgiveness does not erase the past, but it removes its power to control the future.

This week, ask God to make forgiveness a regular part of your prayer life. Receive His grace daily and share that grace generously.

- How can I become known as a person of grace and forgiveness?
- What step is God asking me to take today toward reconciliation or healing?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the freedom found in Your forgiveness. Help me live as a person who receives grace and extends grace. May my life reflect the love of Christ in every relationship. Amen.

THE ONE PRAYER THAT COVERS EVERYTHING YOU NEED

When Jesus taught us to pray, He said, "Give us this day our daily bread."

But that prayer is bigger than it sounds, because you're asking for more than food, shelter, and clothing.

You're asking Him for financial provision, emotional strength, clarity of mind, and friends and fellowship

And you're asking Him to equip you for your job, your future, and whatever you need to get done today.

So daily bread covers everything essential, which means you don't have to worry about the small things.

Because with God, everything is small, and what overwhelms you is nothing for Him.

His part is to provide all your needs according to His glorious riches, and He knows them before you ask.

Day 3 - The Evidence of a Changed Heart

Scripture: Matthew 6:14 - "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you."

Jesus teaches that forgiveness toward others reflects the work God is doing within us. Forgiveness is evidence that God's grace has taken root in our hearts.

Unforgiveness can quietly affect our relationships, our worship, and our peace. It keeps old wounds alive and creates barriers that God desires to remove. When we forgive, we make room for God to bring restoration and growth.

Forgiveness may be a process rather than a single moment. Each time painful memories surface, we can choose again to surrender them to God.

Reflection Questions:
- Does my treatment of others reflect the grace God has shown me?
- What would change in my life if I fully released past offenses?

Prayer:
God, continue transforming my heart. Let Your grace shape my relationships and help me walk in the freedom of forgiveness. Amen.

Day 2 - Forgiveness Given, Forgiveness Extended

Scripture: Matthew 6:12 - "and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Jesus connects receiving forgiveness with extending forgiveness. This does not mean we earn God's forgiveness by forgiving others. Rather, a forgiven heart becomes a forgiving heart.

Forgiveness is often difficult because wounds are real. Yet God calls us to release our right to revenge and entrust justice to Him. Forgiveness is not saying the hurt was acceptable; it is choosing freedom over bitterness.

As we pray, God may bring specific people to mind. Those moments become opportunities to obey Him and experience deeper healing.

Reflection Questions:
- Is there someone I need to forgive?
- What bitterness or resentment am I still carrying?

Prayer:
Father, help me forgive as You have forgiven me. Give me the strength to release hurt and trust You with justice. Amen.

What a powerful message yesterday on forgiveness. With day 1 of our Summer of Prayer devo's for this week we are reminded of that forgiveness that we have received from God.

Remembering the Debt That Was Canceled

Scripture: Matthew 6:12 - "And forgive us our debts, as we also forgiven our debtors."

When Jesus speaks of "debts," He reminds us that sin creates a debt we could never repay. Yet through Christ, God canceled that debt completely. We do not approach God hoping He will forgive us; we approach Him knowing that forgiveness has been made available through Jesus.

Remembering how much we have been forgiven changes our perspective. Gratitude replaces pride. Humility replaces judgment. The more we appreciate God's mercy toward us, the more willing we become to extend mercy to others.

Reflection Questions:
- How has God shown mercy to me?
- Have I forgotten the magnitude of God's forgiveness in my own life?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for paying the debt I could never pay. Help me live each day with gratitude for Your grace. Amen.
