Mother’s Day is almost here!

Sunday, May 10, is the day to honor special women in your life, especially moms in your life, and Global Women’s Project continues to sponsor our Mother’s Day Gratitude Project.

Here’s how you can participate: Donate online and indicate you want to participate in the Mother’s Day Project (see attached image to see how to fill out the online form). Instead of buying your loved ones material things, you’ll be showing them love through a gift that directly benefits the women of our partner projects in the U.S., India, Uganda, South Sudan, and Mexico. We will send a (belated) Mother’s Day card to all honorees.

We are so grateful to all those who have participated in this project in the past, making it our most successful fundraiser. Thank you for your generous support of our partner projects!

On this Thanksgiving, Global Women’s Project is grateful for the opportunity to stand in solidarity with women from around the world. As we gather with loved ones, we are mindful of our various privileges—time for rest, a full table and belly, safety and comfort in our homes—and remember those in our communities, country, and around the world who cannot take these blessings for granted.

We thank our friends and donors for their support in continuing our mission, directly impacting our partner projects and their communities. Happy Thanksgiving!

We are still accepting donations for our Mother’s Day/May Fundraiser through the end of the month. Instead of buying more stuff for a special woman in your life, express gratitude with a gift that keeps on giving. Make a donation by the end of May to fund women-led projects that improve women’s health, education, and livelihood. In return, your chosen recipient(s) will receive a lovely, hand-written card indicating that a gift has been made in their honor.

Your donation allows us to fund women-led projects in India, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, Mexico, and the United States focused on women’s health, education, and employment. Join us for Giving Tuesday! 🕯️ This advent season, we invite you to extend the reach of Global Women’s Project as we make end of year grants supporting special initiatives, responding to partner requests and other worthwhile projects that are seeking one-time funding, including:

🌍 Narus Sewing Cooperative in South Sudan requests support for women farmers toward the purchase of a grinding mill machine and an ox-plough to expand their yield.

🌍 Women in Crises Engagement Programme in Nigeria helps widows and vulnerable women in 109 households who have been traumatized in conflicts. They request help to reach their next goal, providing livelihood training on enterprise development, financial literacy, and group formation of Savings and Loans.

🌍 Madagascar Women’s Prison Relief requests funding to bring clean water, good sanitation, healthy living spaces, and food security to prisoners living in the worst conditions.

🌍 Church World Service asked GWP for financial assistance with a project supporting girls in Afghanistan.

Our steering committee met in person this weekend to continue our work of joining in empowerment with women around the world. We want to thank the University Park Church of the Brethren in University Park, Maryland, for hosting us!

After a weekend of planning and fellowship, we concluded the weekend reading a reflection by Carissa Pinkola Estes called "You Were Made For This." We feel called to share this reflection below:

You Were Made For This

Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take everyone on Earth to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these -- to be fierce and to show mercy toward others; both are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.

There will always be times when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it. I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate. [...]

In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But that is not what great ships are built for.

COB Annual Conference is in full swing and we are here! Stop by and say hi if you haven’t already. We are giving out tea bags with information about each of our partner projects. ☕️ Take a packet to go and use tomorrow morning or bring your own cup and hot water to enjoy over a chat with some of our steering committee members.
