At EFBC, we are committed to biblical teaching, serving Jesus and his Church, and making the beautiful person and work of Christ known in our community and beyond. First Baptist Church has its roots in the European movement in the early 1800s away from State controlled churches to groups of believers seeking to follow their own consciences guided by the Scriptures. Over one hundred years ago, afte

r much prayer and fellowship, a band of believers formed the Baptist Church of Elgin in 1879. It was affiliated with the German Baptist denomination which became the present day North American Baptist Conference. The church had purchased an old church building in 1878, and continued to meet there until the fall of 1898 when they dedicated the new building which is our present facility at 300 Main Street. The church from its earliest days has emphasized music, being blessed with gifted musicians through the years. However, the church's first commitment has always been to the Lord and to the preaching, teaching, and living out of God's Word. Seeking to continue in the fine tradition of our heritage, we are committed to following the Lord and His Word as we touch lives with the Love and power of Jesus Christ.

Awana starts this coming week on September 9 from 6:30-8:00 PM!

Awana at EFBC gives children the opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus through the memorization of scripture and application lessons. Children have an opportunity to fellowship and have fun while learning God’s word together. Age groups are:

🐻Cubbies (3-5 year olds)
💥Sparks (Kindergarten - 2nd grade)
🧨TNT (3rd-6th grades)

Registration will be available after church on Sunday, September 6, as well as on the first night (September 9).

Awana Clubs (clubs.awana.org) is an organization built on a "3B ministry philosophy of child discipleship: Belong, Believe, Become. Children build spiritual resilience when they feel they belong to Jesus, when they believe in the truth of the Bible and then become disciplemakers in their own right."

We are so excited for Awana Clubs and 4:12 Collective Youth Ministry to begin this year! Both programs kick off this Wednesday, September 9. Awana starts at 6:30 and 4:12 Collective (7th-12th grade) kicks off at 6:45.

We are excited to announce that Pastor Joel Detlefsen has accepted the position of Senior Pastor at EFBC! This is an amazing answer to prayer and we are excited for the future. His start date will be October 11.

Pastor Joel, his wife Betsy, and children, Jamie (19), Hannah (17), and Paul "Bub" (6), are originally from Minnesota and have spent the last three years ministering in McEwen, Tennessee. They enjoy sports, the outdoors, music, art, and time together, and look forward to becoming a part of the ministry at Elgin First Baptist.

Hello Church Family! Thank you to Pastor Wick for bringing the message last week and making the journey back to be with us again this Sunday. Worship with us at 10:15, and if you are interested in more fellowship time, pack a lunch and join others in the fellowship hall after church!

As our public school and home school families return to their academic years, the new year is brimming with excitement of new things to learn and potential for growth, as well as challenges with learning and growing. Please join us in prayer for all students, teachers, and the safety of all learning environments.
