Elgin Small Group Opportunity
Two small groups will begin meeting on Zoom in January, using the book "A Journey Into the Heart of God" as our study and conversation starters. This book was written by church members, Renee Smith and Robert Slasor, and includes a series of testimonies about God's love and questions for pondering and journaling. The book is only ten short chapters and is an easy, but powerful read.
The book is available on Amazon. Here is a link:
https://www.amazon.com/Journey-Into-Heart-God-Testimonies/dp/B09XZDL2RF/ref=sr_1_2?crid=ICSNOHTZ0NSL&keywords=a+journey+into+the+heart+of+god&qid=1672590514&sprefix=a+jouney+into+the+heart+of+god%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-2
If you would like us to purchase the book for you and have it shipped to your home, please reply to Sheryl separately and provide your shipping address.
The plan is for small groups to meet every OTHER week and discuss two chapters at a time.
Monday Small Group will be led by Bill Howard at 3:00 pm central time on the following dates:
1/16, 1/30, 2/13, 2/27, and 3/13.
Thursday Small Group will be led by Sheryl Sawyers at 7:00 pm central time on the following dates:
1/19, 2/2, 2/16, 3/2 and 3/16
Please reply to Sheryl separately to let her know which group you would like to join. Zoom links will then be sent to all participants of each group.
Presider/Preacher Training for Hybrid Worship that is taking place this Sunday. Hopefully you are already planning on attending. If you are receiving this special reminder/invitation it is because you...
1. Have been a regular speaker or presider in your home congregation.
2. Have been a guest presider/speaker for the mission center in the past.
3. Have expressed an interest in sharing either through presiding or the spoken word as a part of CMC Sunday.
The training will begin at 12:30pm on Sunday, January 8th. The training will be offered in a hybrid fashion just like our weekly Sunday school and worship offerings, so you can join live at Elgin Community of Christ, from your home congregation (if it’s set for Zoom), or you can join from home. We ask that you prepare your lunch meal in advance or eat before logging in. The training is scheduled to go until 4:30pm. Though we may finish early, we promise not to go over... even if we’re not completely done.
You may also want to take the time to review the resource “Sharing In Community of Christ: 3rd Edition.” If you don’t already have a copy, you can find it available in PDF at: Sharing in Community of Christ by CofChrist - Issuu. It is also available from Herald House for purchase. If you’re congregation does not have copies available and you would like the MC to provide assistance with making copies available, please let me ([email protected]) of Craig ([email protected]) know and we will see that copies are made available (unfortunately, printed copies will not arrive prior to the training).
Here are a few of the topics we will be covering:
· Aligning with Community of Christ Identity, Mission, Message, and Beliefs (IMMB).
· Who is our “congregation?”
· What does an equitable worship experience look like in a hybrid setting?
· Speaking to a “congregation” that is spread across multiple locations.
· Copyright restrictions when streaming a service. What can and cannot be done? How will I know?
· Audio/Visual Challenges/opportunities in hybrid worship.
To make it easier on all participants, we will use the same login as we use for Sunday morning worship:
