Southside church of Christ held a reception honoring Dennis and Janyth Hoff, Sunday, August 4th for their 40 years of service to our church family and our community. The Hoffs moved to Electra in August 1984 after previously serving 15 years in three other congregations in Kansas and Oklahoma.
In Dennis’ 40 years preaching in Electra, he has worked with three church secretaries: Audrey Dye, Becky Rodgers, and Celeste Hecker. Five youth ministers: Dale Fonville, Tim Davidson, Carl Spruell, Dean Nelson, and Timothy Hoff (Dennis and Janyth’s son). Five elders: John Lee, Al Durbin, Kenneth Dye, Bob Donahue, and Dean Nelson. Three deacons: Keith Wilson, Frankie Nelson, and Bob Moore.
Dennis and Janyth have both taught numerous Bible classes as well as working in the bus ministry for 30 years. They have helped host countless number of youth activities, Dennis went to 6-Flags and Texas Rangers games. Janyth was most requested to make one of her lasagnas!
During the severe drought conditions in 2001, Dennis organized a weekly prayer meeting downtown. They would sing, read a scripture, and pray for rain. They met every Friday for about a year.
Dennis worked with the Meals-on-Wheels program for over 10 years and has served on the board for the Senior Citizen’s Center for over five years.
Janyth taught 3rd grade here in Electra for 25 years. All through the 25 years she was active in the Classroom Teachers Association also served as a vice president. Janyth is a member of the Delta Kappa Gama sorority.
Janyth has been involved in the Electra Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for the last eight years. Janyth has hosted a ladies Christmas party throughout the 40 years for ladies in the church as well as other ladies in the community. She has also taught painting classes.
Moving along with Dennis and Janyth were their two sons at the time, Phillip, and Timothy. After a few years of being here in Electra, the Hoff family was made complete with their daughter, Janeigh.
Phillip has always been such a joy to be around. He is the church member with the absolute best smile and positive attitude. As his sister, Janeigh, says, “I tell all my students that Phillip is my role model. He is a true example of not knowing hate and loving everyone.”
Timothy has been a youth minister, worked for many years as a coach and teacher. He and his wife, Shannon, who also has been in education, have two sons, Dawson and Dylon.
Janeigh has been working as a teacher, developing programs and teacher support services. She is also quite creative like her mother; she quilts and has made candies and other things. She and her husband, Nick Stalling, have two sons and one daughter, Ethan, Brodie and Bailey.
Dennis and Janyth’s legacy of serving others is being carried on with their children and now the grandchildren too. We should never underestimate the impact and influence on those who serve others. “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13
