As for Me and My House – Part 7: Bartimaeus

Join the DoMENion Gathering tonight as we continue our series, **“As for Me and My House,”** exploring the lives of biblical men who went above and beyond in their pursuit of God—not only for themselves, but for the sake of their families, their households, and those God has called them to lead.

Tonight, we turn to **Mark 10:46–52** and the powerful story of **Bartimaeus**, a blind beggar sitting on the roadside outside Jericho.

Bartimaeus had spent his life in a position that made him easy to overlook. He couldn't see Jesus, but when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, something inside of him recognized that this might be his moment.

So he cried out:

**“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”**

The crowd tried to silence him. They told him to be quiet. But Bartimaeus refused to let the voices around him keep him from calling on Jesus.

He cried out even louder.

And Jesus stopped.

Think about that for a moment. In the middle of a crowd, with people pressing in around Him, Jesus heard the voice of one man who refused to remain silent.

When Jesus called for him, Bartimaeus threw aside his cloak, got up, and came to Jesus. And when Jesus asked him, **“What do you want me to do for you?”**, Bartimaeus didn't give a complicated answer.

**“Rabbi, I want to see.”**

Jesus told him, **“Go your way; your faith has made you well.”** Immediately, Bartimaeus received his sight—and instead of simply going back to his old life, he **followed Jesus on the way.**

Tonight, we'll explore what Bartimaeus teaches us about **desperation, faith, courage, and responding when Jesus calls.** We'll talk about what it means to cry out to God when others tell us to be quiet, to refuse to let our circumstances define us, and to recognize the moment when Jesus is passing by.

Because sometimes faith means refusing to stay where you've been.

Sometimes you have to throw off the cloak that represents the old life, get up, and move toward Jesus.

And sometimes the greatest evidence that God has changed your life isn't simply that He opened your eyes—it's that **you decided to follow Him.**

Bartimaeus' story challenges every man to ask:

**What am I willing to lay aside to follow Jesus?**

**Am I willing to cry out when everyone else tells me to be quiet?**

**And if Jesus changes my life, am I willing to follow Him wherever He leads—for the sake of me and my house?**

What are you still allowing to keep you sitting on the roadside when Jesus is calling you to get up and follow Him?

As for Me and My House – Part 6: Gideon

Join the DoMENion Gathering tonight as we continue our series, “As for Me and My House,” exploring the lives of biblical men who went above and beyond in their pursuit of God—not only for themselves, but for the sake of their families, their households, and those God has called them to lead.

Tonight, we turn to Judges 6:1–16 and the story of Gideon. Israel had turned away from God, and as a result, they were being oppressed by the Midianites. For seven years, the people lived in fear, hiding in caves and watching their enemies destroy the fruit of their labor.

It was in the middle of this difficult season that God came looking for Gideon.

Gideon wasn't standing on a battlefield. He wasn't leading an army. He was threshing wheat in a winepress, trying to hide from the Midianites and protect what little he had. Yet when the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, He called Gideon a “mighty warrior.”

Gideon didn't feel like a mighty warrior. He questioned God, questioned himself, and pointed to his own weakness and his family's insignificance. But God wasn't calling Gideon based on who he believed himself to be. God was calling him based on who God would be with him.

Tonight, we'll explore what Gideon's story teaches us about responding when God calls us out of fear, insecurity, and complacency. We'll talk about what it means to lead our homes when we don't feel qualified, to trust God when our circumstances don't make sense, and to recognize that God's presence is greater than our limitations.

Because sometimes the greatest battle isn't the one happening around us—it's the battle taking place within us when God asks us to step up.

Gideon's story challenges every man to ask: Am I willing to trust God and become the man He has called me to be—for the sake of my house?

Don't allow your past DISAPPOINTMENTS to hinder you from your future divine APPOINTMENTS.

There is a reason why the rear view mirror is significantly smaller than the windshield of a car. The same pertains to your life. Life was never intended for you to be surveying the past while still trying to move forward because eventually you will have a wreck. So keep your eyes on the a road ahead, briefly glance in your rear view (only to see how far you have come) and follow the GPS (God's Positioning System).
