The Story Behind Spreading the Love of Jesus Ministry
Sometimes, a single act of kindness can change the course of a person's life.
For me, it began with a Christmas miracle when I was only nine years old.
I can still remember that Christmas as though it happened yesterday. My mother had to work on Christmas Day, and because she had no one to leave us with, my sister and I went with her to help cater her boss's Christmas party.
As we watched the guests enjoying their Christmas dinner, my sister and I sat quietly, feeling the pain of hunger. We had no food waiting for us at home, and my mother didn't have enough money to buy groceries.
When our work was finished, we headed home.
As we approached our apartment, we saw two large black bags sitting outside our door.
My mother was shocked. When she opened the bags, tears immediately streamed down her face. Inside one bag was an abundance of food. Inside the other were Christmas presents.
In that moment, my mother knew that God had heard her prayers.
And as a nine-year-old child, I knew God was real. I knew He heard us.
I remember looking at what God had provided and making a promise to Jesus:
“One day, I want to do the same. I want to bless people the way these people blessed us.”
To this day, I still don't know who placed those bags outside our door. I never had the opportunity to thank them or tell them what their kindness meant to me.
But God knew.
What they planted in our home that Christmas, they also planted in my heart.
They didn't know it at the time, but their generosity became the seed of what would one day become Spreading the Love of Jesus Ministry.
A Seed of Love That Keeps Growing
That childhood experience taught me something I have never forgotten: you never know how far one act of love can reach.
The people who blessed my family may have thought they were simply helping a family in need. But their generosity did much more than provide food and presents that Christmas. They gave a little girl hope. They showed me what compassion looks like. And they inspired a promise that I have carried with me ever since.
Today, that promise lives through this ministry.
We believe there are countless people who are hurting, struggling, hungry, homeless, or simply in need of someone to remind them that they are not forgotten.
We also believe there are countless people, churches, businesses, organizations, and families who are waiting for an opportunity to become that blessing.
Imagine how many ministries could be born from a single act of kindness. Imagine how many lives could be changed when we choose to give. Imagine how many seeds we can plant in the hearts of the next generation.
Let's be that light.
Let's be that helping hand.
Let's be that reminder that God has not forgotten them.
Let's be a ray of light and hope to those who feel hopeless.
We Can't Do It Alone
Spreading the Love of Jesus Ministry would not be possible without the incredible volunteers, donors, adopters, churches, businesses, families, and supporters who continue to go above and beyond year after year.
We are a small organization, but our vision is great—and that vision is made possible through the generosity of people who believe in loving their neighbors and serving those in need.
We are especially grateful for our monthly donors. Their faithful support helps us continue providing assistance to families and individuals experiencing hardship and homelessness throughout the year.
Every gift matters. Every volunteer matters. Every prayer matters. Every act of kindness matters.
If you would like to help us continue this mission, we invite you to become a monthly donor by visiting our Give section on our website. Your generosity helps us reach people who need food, encouragement, hope, and a helping hand.
If you know someone who is in need, please contact Jorge or Rosie Gomez at (415) 851-7775, or submit a request through our online form.
