In 1597, upon her confirmation, she took the name Rose. Although admired for her physical beauty, Rose would often cut her hair and dirty her face, wanting instead to live a life virginity. As she grew, she would help care for the sick and poor of the city, selling her handmade needlework, lace, and embroidery to care for her family and those in need. Though her parents forbade her from becoming a nun, Rose instead became a lay member of the Dominican Order. She spent the remaining years of her life in prayer, solitude, and care for the poor. She died in 1617 at 31 years of age. She was beatified in 1667 by Pope Clement IX and canonized in 1671 by Pope Clement X, the first declared saint born in the Americas.

Join the Catholic Apostolate Center in commemorating the of Bl. Michael J. McGivney | Father Michael J. McGivney was a Catholic priest who was a central figure in the growth of Catholicism in America and the founder of the Knights of Columbus. Father McGivney focused all his spiritual, mental, and physical energies on helping others persevere and in growing in that faith. He created the Knights of Columbus in 1882 to aid Catholic men in growing in faith, fraternity, and to provide insurance to their families in case they were to perish in dangerous occupations, like coal mining. This fraternal benefit society quickly grew and now has 1.7 million members. McGivney sadly did not see his society grow. He developed tuberculosis during a global pandemic and passed away on August 14th, 1890. “He was charitable to a fault … the poor found in him a good Samaritan, and were the frequent recipients of his bounty … there are few clergymen in my recollection who enjoyed in a greater degree than he the respect of his colleagues and the reverence of the people.” - a priest describing Father McGivney
