Tears are telling. Although there are tears that tell of joy, many more tears speak of hurt and brokenness, loss and emptiness. Tears state the fact that this life does not provide the real satisfaction and fulfillment we deeply long for. Whenever tears remind us of that reality, the encouragement is this: “KEEP LOOKING TO HEAVEN!” God’s Word for this week gives us a glimpse of heaven where there are NO MORE TEARS, where disgrace and death are swallowed up forever. This is what the Lord Himself has spoken! Come and see, believe and live.

We admire examples of those who are patient with others because, well, let’s face it – most of us struggle with such patience. Our lack of PATIENCE is usually a matter of our own selfishness and desire for control. When others don’t do what we want as we want when we want, our patience is tested.

As you take a hard look at that in your heart and life, now also consider GOD’S PATIENCE – God’s incredible patience. He is holy, right and righteous in every way. He alone has every right to make immediate judgment and to deal out immediate punishment, yes, condemnation. And yet what do we see throughout the pages of the Bible? We see God’s incredible patience as He delays and withholds judgment upon sinners. And what do we see in our own lives? We see God’s incredible patience as He delays and withholds judgment upon us.

You see, behind GOD’S INCREDIBLE PATIENCE is His PERSISTENT LOVE. Read our sermon text for this week – Matthew 21:33-43 – and you will see that clearly. You will also see that behind God’s incredible patience is SALVATION. “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Reflect on that this week – “God Is Incredibly Patient” – WITH YOU, FOR YOUR SALVATION. So let us repent and then rejoice in our patient God and Savior!

REMEMBERING SUNDAY’S SERMON: Nothing Jesus said or did means anything or carries any weight without Jesus’ authority as the holy Son of God. That’s the authority by which He paid for all sin, by which He conquered death, and by which He promises eternal life to all who believe. This is the authority with which Jesus personally says to you, “Friend, your sins are forgiven,” “Neither do I condemn,” “Peace be with you,” and finally, “You will be with Me in paradise.” This is the authority on which your comfort, strength, and faith rests.

People have issues with AUTHORITY for various reasons. But a common reason for all of us is that we all have a degree of PRIDE lurking within, a pride that does not want to SUBMIT to anyone. Jesus really hit the nerve of pride in the religious leaders of His day. Jesus still hits that nerve of pride today as He speaks with an UNMATCHED AUTHORITY that calls us to REPENT. In this week’s sermon, you’ll see how the religious leaders responded to Jesus’ authority, and you’ll be challenged to consider your response. When you see WHAT JESUS DID WITH HIS AUTHORITY, this much will be clear: “Jesus’ Authority Leaves a Lasting Impression.”
