REMEMBERING SUNDAY’S SERMON: Life is difficult and draining – spiritually and physically. It really is! But we all need to calm down and remain steadfast in the faith we share in Christ Jesus, our Savior. Remember our motto: “Forward in Christ! Together in Christ! Forever in Christ!” There ought to be no other way among us. For we know how it all turned out for Christ – He is risen indeed! – so we know how it will all turn out for us.

Yes, we do live in crazy days. There are any number of things in the headlines (and in your personal headlines) from day to day that can rile you up and stoke degrees of worry or anger or fear within you. God’s Word comes to us with this message: “Calm Down.” Yes, what we might say to hyper children is also exactly what we need to hear at times from our gracious God. “Calm down; I am full of compassion and mercy and will see you through this.” Come learn of Him who is the reason for your calm.

MIDWEEK ENCOURAGEMENT:
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)

It is wise to make goals and to plan carefully. But it is foolish to do so without seeking and trusting the Lord. His Word reminds us of the unpredictability of life – “You don’t even know what will happen tomorrow” – and of the brevity and fragility of our lives: “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). Too easily and too often we think and act like we own tomorrow. But the reality is that your very next breath depends on Him. So we say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:15). When we plan life, we want to actively remember (with God’s Word in our hearts, and with prayer and thanksgiving) that each day is a gracious gift from our gracious God. He holds us in His hands; He holds tomorrow in His hands. …We can trust those hands that were pierced for us! This truth prompts a faith that is busy, bold, confident, and intentional in doing what is good to the glory of God. So let us encourage one another to “Live Today and Every Day for the Lord!”

KEEPING A SONG IN YOUR HEART:

REMEMBERING SUNDAY’S SERMON: Who of you is not humbled as you see yourself standing before the Lord? Who of you would not cry out with the prophet Isaiah, “Woe to me! I am ruined!” (Isaiah 6:5)? Yet, upon your cry, standing before the Lord with all your sins and sinfulness, what does God give you? MORE GRACE. What does God show you? GREATER GRACE. “He does not treat you as your sins deserve or repay you according to your iniquities” (Psalm 103:10).

As great and many as our sins are, God’s grace to us in Jesus abounds MORE! We believe what the Bible declares, that we are saved entirely by GOD’S ABOUNDING GRACE, apart from any works or merit of our own. It is by Christ’s work and merit that we are saved, not our own.
