HOPE FOUND IN THE EASTER STORY OF PETER

“Peter. The rock. The disciple Jesus planned to use to build his church (Matthew 16:18). The disciple who recognized Jesus was the Messiah (Matthew 16:15-17). Peter, who followed Jesus through thick and thin; who cut off a man’s ear to defend Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (John 18:10). Peter, who walked on water (Matthew 14:28-29). Even this disciple stumbled…fell hard…gave up hope…lost faith. On the night that Jesus was betrayed, this Peter thought surely he would stand strong and remain faithful even if none of the other disciples did. Wrong. What made this disciple think that he could do it if no one else could?

And if even Peter could fall when things got rough, what hope do the rest of us have?

Yes, there’s a warning for us in Peter’s story, but there’s also tremendous hope: a hope that can also be ours.”

For those of you who have an interest in NVC and/or in mine and Rosie’s lives, we want to thank you for your love, prayers, and support. After more than 14 years of ministry at NVC and 2 years of wrestling with God, I have resigned from New Vision. Rosie and I have sensed God leading us in a new direction for some time now and over the last 6 months He has made it clear.

Rosie and I plan to remain in El Paso, continue teaching, and look forward to having the time and energy to live a more missional lifestyle as a couple. God is forming a new ministry in our hearts. While we do not know exactly what that ministry will look like, we are certain it will not be in traditional church ministry.

Rosie and I are well; by God’s grace 32 years strong in marriage. We are expecting 3 new grand babies this year - 1 in July, 1 in September, and 1 in October. God is good!

This Sunday, June 5th is our last Sunday at NVC. We appreciate your prayers for us and for New Vision during this transition.
