Course Overview
Yeshe Khorlo USA will offer a systematic online course on Dudjom Rinpoche’s teaching on the Six Bardos during March, April, and May 2026.
This course consists of 24 online sessions (48 total hours), personally taught by Khenpo Wangchuk. It is an extremely rare and precious opportunity for in-depth study and practice, presenting the Six Bardos from the perspective of Dzogchen (Great Perfection) and establishing a solid foundation for practice in life, death, and the intermediate states.
About Khenchen Wangchuk
Khenchen Wangchuk holds a Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy from Gangteng Buddhist University in Bhutan and completed a three-year retreat under the direct guidance of H.H. the 9th Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche.
He is thoroughly trained in:
Madhyamaka philosophy
Buddhist debate
Vajrayana ritual practice
Dzogchen meditation and experiential instruction
Khenpo Wangchuk served for fourteen years as a Vajra Master at Drametse Monastery under H.H. the 10th Sungtrul Rinpoche. In 2021 he founded Nalanda Adi Ling Buddhist Institute in Bhutan.
He is currently the resident teacher of Yeshe Khorlo USA, providing long-term, systematic Dzogchen training and guidance to monastics and lay practitioners worldwide.
Course Content
According to H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche, the term bardo does not refer only to the period after death. Rather, it encompasses the entire continuum of experience from birth to enlightenment. Bardo means “interval” or “transition,” and from the Vajrayana—especially Dzogchen—perspective, any state in which the nature of mind has not yet been fully recognized is a bardo.
Dudjom Rinpoche emphasized that bardos are not dangers in themselves but profound opportunities for liberation. Because the mind in bardo states is more open and less fixed, recognition of the nature of mind at any point can result in immediate liberation.
The Six Bardos
The Bardo of This Life — from birth until death
The Dream Bardo — the dream state
The Meditation Bardo — experiences arising in meditation
The Bardo of Dying — the process of death
The Bardo of Dharmata — the direct manifestation of primordial awareness
The Bardo of Becoming — the process leading to rebirth
From Dudjom Rinpoche’s Dzogchen perspective, the most crucial bardo is the present moment. If rigpa (primordial awareness) is recognized now, all bardos are naturally liberated. Thus, Dzogchen practice—especially Trekchö (Cutting Through)—is the essential preparation for recognizing the nature of mind in life, death, and the intermediate states.
For those who have taken bardo teachings with Gangteng Rinpoche, or for those who are preparing for the Kunzang Gongdu Bardo Retreat, Khenchen Wangchuk’s Six Bardos course is different in both scope and application, making it accessible to all students.
