I was checking the bank account yesterday, and we are about out of funds. Currently the Congregation is shut down due to the pandemic, which has greatly limited our income.

We should be open again sometime within the next couple of months, I hope, but I would appreciate some contributions to tide us over.

The need is about $200 per month that we are closed. We currently have about $200. This covers insurance and utilities (The church still needs electricity and gas even is we don't meet.)

To this end, I will be putting in some money in the next few days, but Social Security doesn't pay that much.

Remember that all donations are tax deducible. Either send donations to me at the church address, or donations can be made through the World Church at https://www.cofchrist.org/give. Be sure to enter the name of the congregation at the appropriate place.

The Covid-19 shutdown has taken a toll on the Church Building. I was over there last week and discovered the roof was leaking. Today I asked a contractor to look at it, and he pointed out that a branch probably from the tree next to the church fell on the roof, and punched a hole. The cost to fix: $120, plus we have to replace some of the tiles in the suspended ceiling, and clean up the mess.

While I think we have enough money to handle this, this is some unexpected expense that needs to be addressed. It would be good if someone could see to donate $150 to fix the roof. Note, of course, the donations are tax deductible if that is important.

Today the El Dorado congregation had its first e-worship experience. It was a very good service, marred by only one major technological problem.
The sermon, given by Rodney Petersen was excellent, and very appropriate.
Next time we will understand the technology better, and will plan a better service. Tentatively I am planning for next Sunday, but I have to clear it with the Pastor (Wanetta) first.

Tomorrow we will have an e-meeting for church using zoom. Since it is possible that someone could have a problem with zoom, I have decided to host a test meeting at 4:00 today (3/21/2020). There will be no service, except to "shoot the breeze." The meeting ID is 446-210-523 and the URL is http://zoom.com.
Hit "join a meeting" then enter the meeting ID. This can be with or without the video.

I (Bill Baldwin) am considering redoing the El Dorado Community of Christ WEB page. There are three reasons for this. First, I have not really been satisfied with some of the technical aspects of the existing page. Second, I took a class at a recent Mission Center Event talking about WEB pages, and think some of the ideas are worthwhile. Third, I have had a task of finding information about local churches, which consists of getting the information from their WEB sites. Therefore, I have made a scan of a number (20-30) church WEB sites, and have gleaned some ideas from this.

One thing I see is that many of the church WEB sites are secure sites out the door. A lot of businesses do this to make spoofing the WEB page more difficult. It also will allow people to be more open in sending comments to the WEB page. That is, it would be more difficult, in fact, next to impossible, to intercept communication.

There would be some cost, possibly as much as $10 per month, although I might look at a free site.

I could also move the site from my personal server. That would cost about $25 per month, as I recall.

One idea that I got from the Mission Center Class is that I should consider the WEB site itself as a ministry of the church rather than strictly as a means of directing people to the Sunday morning service. And I have seen a few church WEB sites which do this.

One thing commonly done is posting of sermons.

Another possibility is that I could teach classes online. This would involve me (or someone else, for that matter) posting a lecture, then the students being allowed to ask questions, or make statements.

It would be possible to teach children's classes this way.

These are my ideas, if anyone else has any ideas, please post them as a response to this post.

It is with great sadness that I have to point out the death of three people from the El Dorado Community of Christ. Lonnie Jesser, Renata Wehry, and Terry Whery were killed in an automobile accident a couple of days ago.
