Schedule may change for special services. We are a Japanese/English bilingual member of the United Church of Christ in El Cerrito, California with two worship services each Sunday, in Japanese and English. While Sycamore is committed to

serving the Japanese speaking community and celebrating Japanese culture and traditions through worship, education, and community events, we are blessed with a diverse congregation and welcome all of God's people.

Last Sunday, we were so glad to welcome Pastor Chris back to Sycamore.

After worship and lunch together, Rev. Christine Pifer-Foote, California State Railroad Museum Guest Curator & CSRM Volunteer, gave a fascinating presentation on Anna Judah, an important but often overlooked woman in California history.📚

Pastor Chris also brought artwork related to Anna and replicas of her botanical specimens, and everyone enjoyed taking a closer look. Her talk was not only informative, but also a wonderful reminder of the joy of following a subject you care deeply about.

Thank you, Pastor Chris, for such a wonderful afternoon with us!💚

Join us tomorrow for a special presentation by our own Rev. Christine Pifer-Foote, California State Railroad Museum Guest Curator & CSRM Volunteer!

After worship and a light lunch, Pastor Chris will share about Anna Judah, an important but often overlooked woman in California history.

Pastor Chris has done extensive research on Anna Judah and has also curated an exhibit about her at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento.

Today, Sycamore had the joy of hosting the NCNC MID Retreat for the first time and welcoming a wonderful group of emerging ministers. 💚

As part of the retreat program, Pastor Tomoko gave a presentation on Sycamore’s history and its ministry today. It was especially meaningful to see how deeply interested everyone was in Sycamore’s unique story and the particular shape of its ministry.

We were grateful for the conversations and for the chance to welcome these hopeful future leaders into our community! ✨

Day Camp has come to a joyful close! Well done, campers! 🎉

We had a wonderful five days together, filled with laughter, learning, and God’s love.

Each day, the children explored a different Bible story and created age-appropriate crafts inspired by the day’s theme. It was a joy to watch their creativity, focus, and confidence grow throughout the week.

And of course, one of the highlights each day was lunch! 🍽️ Our church chef prepared delicious homemade meals, and some of the children looked forward to lunchtime just as much as any other part of camp.

As the week went on, everyone became more comfortable with one another and with the camp environment. Through sharing, caring for each other, and praying together, the children experienced this year’s theme, “God’s Love…”, not just as words, but through the friendships and community they built together.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers, counselors, cooks, parents, and everyone who helped make this week so special!💚

Day Camp is in full swing at Sycamore!☀️

This week, our church is buzzing with joyful voices, happy feet, and lots of smiles as we explore this year's theme: God's Love. 💚

So far we've started our mornings with yoga or radio-taiso, lifted our voices in song, created amazing crafts, played outside, shared stories, made new friends, and had so much fun together!

You’re invited to a special Joint Worship Service! 💚
Reimagining America’s 250 Through AAPI Faith and Community🎇

On Sunday, July 5, Sycamore Congregational Church UCC and Berkeley Chinese Community Church UCC will gather for a special bilingual worship service:

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, we’ll come together to reflect on the faith, stories, and communities that continue to shape our life together.

Pastors Tomoko from Sycamore and Pastor Kathryn from BCCC will co-lead worship, joined by leaders and musicians from both congregations.

Casual clothes or aloha wear are encouraged. 🌺
A fellowship luncheon will follow the service.

A new journey begins at Sycamore with Pastor Tomoko! 💚

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for our Pastoral Installation Service, and to all who have held us in prayer from near and far (especially our friends in Japan!).

We are grateful for this beautiful day and excited for the road ahead together. ✨

A little miracle. 🦋💚

For the past couple of weeks, a monarch chrysalis has been hanging near the entrance of our church. Then another caterpillar appeared on the sanctuary door, stayed there, and formed its own chrysalis. We’ve even found a few more around our church building!

Today, one butterfly emerged and began its journey. Its wings weren’t quite ready at first, but by evening it was flying away!

As we prepare for tomorrow’s Pastoral Installation Service, this feels like such a meaningful sign for our community.🦋

We look forward to sharing this special day with all of you tomorrow. ✨
