Schedule may change for special services. We are a Japanese/English bilingual member of the United Church of Christ in El Cerrito, California with two worship services each Sunday, in Japanese and English. While Sycamore is committed to

serving the Japanese speaking community and celebrating Japanese culture and traditions through worship, education, and community events, we are blessed with a diverse congregation and welcome all of God's people.

A new journey begins at Sycamore with Pastor Tomoko! 💚

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for our Pastoral Installation Service, and to all who have held us in prayer from near and far (especially our friends in Japan!).

We are grateful for this beautiful day and excited for the road ahead together. ✨

A little miracle. 🦋💚

For the past couple of weeks, a monarch chrysalis has been hanging near the entrance of our church. Then another caterpillar appeared on the sanctuary door, stayed there, and formed its own chrysalis. We’ve even found a few more around our church building!

Today, one butterfly emerged and began its journey. Its wings weren’t quite ready at first, but by evening it was flying away!

As we prepare for tomorrow’s Pastoral Installation Service, this feels like such a meaningful sign for our community.🦋

We look forward to sharing this special day with all of you tomorrow. ✨

Last Sunday, we observed Founder's Memorial Day. 🕊️

We remembered Rev. Shinjiro Okubo, our founding pastor, along with the many faithful people who helped build and sustain this church through the generations.

After worship, we gathered at Mountain View Cemetery for a graveside service at the resting place of Rev. and Mrs. Okubo. We also visited the graves of beloved members of our community, offering prayers and flowers in remembrance.

We are grateful for those who came before us, and for the stories that continue to shape our community today. 💐

Our preschool kids also celebrated Pentecost in the Sanctuary! 🔥🕊️

We learned about Pentecost as the birthday of the Church, blew out candles together, and everyone sang, “Happy Birthday, Church!” 🎂❤️

Founder’s Memorial Day Worship
Sunday, May 31 🕊️

On Sunday, May 31, Sycamore Congregational Church UCC will observe Founder’s Memorial Day, remembering Rev. Shinjiro Okubo, our first pastor, on the anniversary of his passing.

We will gather for our regular joint bilingual worship service at the church from 11am. Following that, we will have with an outdoor memorial service at Rev. Okubo’s gravesite in Oakland.

All are welcome as we give thanks for the faith and vision that planted Sycamore, and as we continue to walk together in God’s Spirit.

Happy Pentecost Sunday!🔥🕊️

Red was everywhere at Sycamore today!❤️
Red clothes, red decorations in the sanctuary, even red velvet cake and strawberry Jello at fellowship time 🍓❤️

As we worshiped together in both Japanese and English, our bilingual service felt especially meaningful on Pentecost: people gathered by the Holy Spirit across different languages and backgrounds, just like the first Pentecost story.

Our Tomodachi-Time kids also celebrated by making Pentecost flame crafts together 🔥

Thank you to everyone who helped make this sale possible, and to all the volunteers, donors, and shoppers who supported Sycamore along the way.
