The word "diakonia" comes from the Greek word for service.

For generations, deaconesses have lived out that calling by serving in congregations, hospitals, schools, social service agencies, campuses, and communities around the world.

Diakonia is more than a ministry role. It is a way of following Jesus by walking alongside others with compassion, dignity, and hope.

That calling continues today.

Not something I usually do here, but have you sen "Songs From the Hole" on Netflix yet? I strongly recommend it. Amazingly humanizing view of a young man's time in prison and the growth he experiences which eventually helps him regain his freedom. Not dramatized. Not Hollywood actors, but real people, wonderful music, and visuals that help present the story.
Hats off to Richie Reseda and his crew.

Sentenced to life in prison at 15, musician JJ'88 finds hope by writing songs during solitary confinement in this award-winning documentary visual album.

A look into "family history" from Francisco Herrera. Until I read this I didn't know who McGavran was or the complicated contribution he made in regards to church growth. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1cmkGC9gm8/

The founder of the church growth movement was full to bursting with intercultural adaptation and anti-racist struggle. How did he become the darling of White segregationist...

Personal Care Kits are running out — and neighbors in crisis need them now.

When disaster strikes, Personal Care Kits are always one of the first requests.

A toothbrush. A bar of soap. A clean towel. These simple items become luxuries. They give dignity. They bring hope to our neighbors in their darkest moments.

With hurricane season intensifying and disasters increasing in frequency and force, Lutheran World Relief needs your love — and your Personal Care Kits — urgently.

Whether you make one kit on your own or hundreds with your congregation, school or community group — every single kit will reach someone in their most vulnerable moment.

Use the available resources at the link in the blog and get started today. So when neighbors face disaster, your love will already be waiting. https://bit.ly/3SBEBB6

Until your love reaches every neighbor.

🙏🏾 God of many names, Allah, Krishna, Yahweh, Great Spirit who is She, They, Ze, He,

I carry so much on my heart right now,
When will the hate stop?
When will deportations end?
When can our LGBTQIA+ siblings live and
celebrate without fear?
When will we welcome the stranger, feed the
poor, and love one another as Christ commanded?

Move through our hearts, God.
Let justice flow, compassion rise, and remind us: silence is never neutrality.
Heal what we have broken.

Teach us to see one another as kin, to protect the vulnerable, to defend the oppressed, to celebrate every life as sacred. Amen
