Today's Scripture: Psalm 133
Devotional: The beauty and joy of God’s people living in harmony
Psalm 133 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.
Why Is Our Church So Important Today?
Our church remains vital because Psalm 133 portrays Christian unity as a rare, beautiful, and blessed gift that reflects God’s heart and welcomes His presence.
By “church,” I mean not the building but the believers. Historically and biblically, the word describes the community of people who follow Jesus, not the physical place where they gather.
My wife and I deeply value the weekly worship service for two reasons.
First, we worship publicly with people we love and care about. Seeing our brothers and sisters praise God together is deeply inspiring.
Second, over the years we have built deep relationships with our brothers and sisters that continue throughout the week. This day of celebration—our Sabbath—is a time to study the Bible, praise the Lord, and enjoy fellowship with others.
A special part of the day is sharing a meal after the service. Good food and company turn an ordinary meal into a joyful celebration of God’s daily provision. Laughter around the table makes it a feast of gratitude.
A shared table creates a safe and welcoming space. God’s peace calms hearts, eases anxiety, encourages reconciliation, and restores harmony.
As we share the meal, Christ does not feel distant; He meets us in our everyday routines and is present in every conversation.
We experience His presence when we praise together and share a meal, because both express the love of Christ.
Let Us Pray
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your grace, mercy, and undeserved forgiveness.
Thank You for being with us always, especially when we gather to worship You. Help us care for one another, love our brothers and sisters, and offer help wherever it is needed. We thank Jesus for His great mercy and power, and we place our trust in Your unfailing love.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
