In the US, we pass the hat. But in the Zen tradition, the practice is takuhatsu.
It is in the spirit of takuhatsu that we ask you to donate today to our 2026 spring appeal. Hokyoji is, as Buddhist communities have always been, entirely dependent on the generosity of others. https://dsnp.co/Hd2tca
In the spirit of takuhatsu, we do not seek donations for extras, but for necessities: it takes $433 per day, rain or shine, to keep Hokyoji’s doors open—to pay the mortgage and other bills, take care of our beautiful land and buildings and pay our diligent and devoted staff.
In the spirit of takuhatsu, we honor every donation as an expression of the giver’s practice.
In the spirit of takuhatsu, we accept each gift with the vow to use it on behalf of all beings.
In the spirit of takuhatsu, we trust in the bowl to help ensure a vital present and thriving future for Hokyoji’s practitioners today and tomorrow.
In the spirit of takuhatsu, we offer nine bows of gratitude to you for considering a donation. Give within your means, but by all means, please give:https://dsnp.co/Hd2tca
