What if your ordinary life is more important to God than you realize?

As we begin our New Testament series, we meet John the Baptist—a messenger whose purpose was to prepare people to meet Jesus.

But John's story reminds us that God can use every part of our lives to point people to Jesus.

Meet Him in the Struggle — Our difficulties can become places where we experience God more deeply.

See Him in the Blessing — God's blessings can become opportunities to show others His goodness.

Show Him in the Ordinary — Our jobs, families, responsibilities, and everyday lives can all point people toward Jesus.

You don't have to be on a stage to be a messenger.

Your life can point someone to Jesus.

Watch this week's sermon, “The Messenger Prepared,” based on Luke 1:5–17 and John 1:6–9.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

What part of your life can you use this week to point someone toward Jesus?

Our ❤️ hearts are with everyone across the Effingham and Altamont area dealing with the aftermath of the recent 🌪️ tornadoes and hail.

In moments like this, when our community feels shaken, we lean on each other and on our faith.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." — Psalm 46:1

If your home was damaged, or if you are feeling overwhelmed by the storm, please know that you are not alone. We are lifting up our neighbors, first responders, and families in prayer for safety, peace, and swift recovery.

We want to stand in the gap where we can. While we are a small congregation, we believe in the power of praying and a helping hand.

Need Prayer or a Listening Ear? Please reach out to us directly or drop a comment below. We would love to pray with you.

Let's look out for one another. God bless you all.

Hello families!

We are sorry, but we will be cancelling today’s camp. It is not safe for the campers and the weather seems unpredictable in the next 3-4 hours. We were really looking forward meeting you today, but the weather had other plans.

Thanks for your understanding and we look forward seeing you tomorrow!

🌸 🌸 Happy Mother Day! 🌹🌹

Today, we honor our mothers. God commands us to “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12), reminding us to give thanks for those who have loved us, sacrificed for us, and helped shape who we are.

On Mother’s Day, we celebrate not only our biological mothers, but also the women who have nurtured, encouraged, taught, and cared for others like mothers.

Some women may never have had children of their own, yet their lives overflow with the love, wisdom, and faith that have touched countless people.

That was true of Claudine, who became a mother figure to many. Through her kindness, mentorship, and faithful example, she left a lasting impact on our church family and on everyone who knew her.

Today, many of the women of our church dressed in her memory — a beautiful reminder that a life lived in love and faith continues to bless others long after we are gone.

We thank God for every mother, grandmother, mentor, teacher, and spiritual mother who has helped us become who we are.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.” — Proverbs 31:28

Happy Mother’s Day from First Christian Church of Effingham.

Our mission is to help everyone become more like Jesus, and honoring our mothers is a way that we become more like Him.
