The People of a Healthy Church — The Women
Titus 2:3-5
Healthy churches are strengthened by women who faithfully walk with God, serve others, and invest in the next generation. In Titus 2, we find a pattern of godly influence that begins with character and extends into the home, the church, and the lives of those who follow behind.
Join us this Sunday as we consider the responsibilities, requirements, and roles of healthy women in a healthy church.

The King of Glory
Psalm 24:1-10
Psalm 24 reminds us that the Lord is not merely a king among many—He is the rightful King over all creation. The earth belongs to Him, access to Him requires holiness, and His glory surpasses every earthly power.
This Sunday afternoon, we will consider the King who owns all things, the King who is worthy to be sought, and the King of Glory who reigns forever.

The People of a Healthy Church: The Men
Joshua 24:14-15
Healthy churches do not happen by accident. They are strengthened by men who are committed to serving the Lord, leading their homes, growing in spiritual maturity, and faithfully serving the people around them.
In Joshua's final challenge to Israel, he called God's people to make a clear decision: "choose you this day whom ye will serve." The same call remains for men today.
Join us this Sunday as we consider the responsibilities, requirements, and roles of healthy men in a healthy church.

Today our church family says goodbye to a man who has been part of First Baptist Church for nearly his entire life.

Dean Cooper began attending First Baptist Church as a young teenager and remained faithful for more than 75 years. First Baptist was not only his church home, but also the place where he met Jeri and where their life together began. Through the years, they faithfully served the Lord, raised their family, built lasting friendships, and became a beloved part of our church family.

If you knew Dean, you knew his faithfulness. He was in his place whenever the doors were open. In fact, if Dean and Jeri were absent, most of us knew exactly what had happened—their road had flooded, and the rain had kept them from getting out. Otherwise, you could count on seeing Dean at church.

More than his faithfulness, we will remember his kindness. Dean was a friend to everyone. He was always willing to help, always ready with a smile, and always made people feel welcome. He served the Lord quietly and consistently, and his life left an impact on generations of people who knew him.

We are so thankful for the many years God allowed us to know and love Dean. Our hearts are with Miss Jeri and the entire Cooper family. We are grateful for the joy, friendship, and example they have been to our church family.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Edna. Please continue to pray for Jeri and the family in the days ahead.

For additional details about Dean’s life, family, and service arrangements, please see the obituary link in the comments.

The Importance of Church History
Psalm 78:5-7

Why should Christians study church history?

Because remembering God's faithfulness in the past helps us remain faithful in the present. Church history reminds us that our faith did not begin with us, that truth is worth preserving, and that each generation has a responsibility to pass biblical faith to the next.

Join us this Wednesday as we begin a new study on the importance of church history and what it means for believers today.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Psalm 23:1–6

Psalm 23 is one of the most loved passages in all of Scripture. In a world filled with uncertainty, David reminds us that those who belong to the Lord have a Shepherd who faithfully leads, provides, protects, and cares for them every step of the way.

Join us Sunday evening as we look at this timeless psalm and discover the peace, confidence, and assurance that come from knowing the Lord as our Shepherd.

The People of the Church — The Pastor

1 Timothy 3:1–7

A healthy church does not happen by accident. God has established qualifications and responsibilities for those who lead His people.

This Sunday morning, we will examine the role of the pastor and discover the importance of his walk with God, his example before others, and his responsibility to care for the flock entrusted to him.

We will consider:

• The pastor's personal walk with God
• The pastor's example before the church
• The pastor's responsibility to shepherd and protect God's people

Join us as we study what Scripture teaches about the character, calling, and duties of a pastor in a healthy church.

This goes well with our morning message this Sunday. The Elements of a Healthy Church. The church can only be healthy if the people are healthy and we will look first at the pastor this Sunday at 10:30 am

🙏 PRAY FOR YOUR PASTOR — HE MAY BE CARRYING MORE THAN YOU REALIZE.

Sometimes, the person standing in front of the church every Sunday is the same person quietly carrying burdens that nobody else can see.

He smiles while preaching.
He encourages others while he is tired.
He prays for hurting people while carrying his own battles.
He strengthens discouraged hearts while sometimes needing strength himself.
He listens to people's problems while keeping his own struggles between himself and God.

The pulpit does not make a pastor immune to pain.

He is still human.

He gets tired.
He gets discouraged.
He faces disappointment.
He makes difficult decisions.
He carries responsibilities.
He worries about his family.
He experiences rejection.
He faces spiritual opposition.
And sometimes, he simply needs someone to say:

“Pastor, we are praying for you.” ❤️🙏

Never assume that because your pastor is strong in public, he never struggles in private.

Never assume that because he prays for everyone else, he doesn't need someone praying for him.

Never assume that because he keeps showing up, he isn't exhausted.

Sometimes the person carrying the responsibility of leading others is quietly asking God for the strength to keep going.

That's why the church should not only receive from its pastor.

The church should also encourage, support, pray for, and stand beside its pastor.

📖 Galatians 6:2 (KJV)

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS STRENGTH.
When he feels exhausted, ask God to renew him.

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS WISDOM.
When difficult decisions come, ask God to guide him.

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS FAMILY.
Protect their marriage, children, home, peace, and unity.

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS SPIRITUAL LIFE.
May he remain close to God even while constantly serving others.

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS COURAGE.
May he continue preaching God's Word faithfully, even when the message is difficult to deliver.

🙏 PRAY FOR HIS PEACE.
May he give his burdens to the Lord instead of carrying everything alone.

And don't only pray.

ENCOURAGE HIM.

Send a message.

Say thank you.

Help when you can.

Serve alongside him.

Don't create unnecessary burdens for him.

Don't judge him by one difficult moment.

Don't expect perfection from a human servant.

Instead, pray for him and stand with him.

Your pastor may never tell you how much your simple encouragement means.

Your message may arrive on a difficult day.

Your prayer may strengthen him when he feels like giving up.

Your willingness to serve may remind him that he isn't carrying the ministry alone.

🔥 A CHURCH SHOULD NOT ONLY ASK, “WHAT CAN MY PASTOR DO FOR ME?”

Ask:

“WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP THE WORK OF GOD?”

Because ministry is not a one-person responsibility.

The pastor has a role.

The church has a role.

Every believer has a role.

We are called to pray, serve, encourage, give, love, support, and work together for the Kingdom of God.

And remember this:

Your pastor is not your Savior.
Jesus is.

Your pastor cannot carry everyone's burdens.

Your pastor cannot solve every problem.

Your pastor cannot be everywhere.

Your pastor cannot know everything.

But Jesus can.

So pray for your pastor—and pray that your pastor will always depend on Christ rather than human strength.

📖 Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…”

To every pastor who feels tired today:

Keep trusting God.

The people may not see every sacrifice.

They may not know every late-night prayer.

They may not know every tear.

They may not know every difficult decision.

But God sees.

God sees the sermon prepared when you were exhausted.

God sees the prayer prayed when nobody was watching.

God sees the family sacrifices.

God sees the hours of counseling.

God sees the visits.

God sees the tears.

God sees the faithfulness.

And ultimately, God is the One you are serving.

So church, before you ask your pastor to pray for you today—

PRAY FOR YOUR PASTOR. 🙏

Before you ask him to encourage you—

ENCOURAGE HIM.

Before you ask him to carry your burden—

ASK GOD HOW YOU CAN HELP CARRY HIS.

❤️ YOUR PASTOR NEEDS PRAYER TOO.

Pray for your pastor.
Pray for his family.
Pray for his ministry.
Pray for his strength.
Pray for his protection.
Pray for his faithfulness.

Because sometimes, the person carrying the church needs someone to remind him that he doesn't have to carry everything alone.

🙏 PRAY FOR YOUR PASTOR.

❤️ ENCOURAGE YOUR PASTOR.

🤝 SUPPORT YOUR PASTOR.

✝️ AND MOST OF ALL, PRAY THAT HE REMAINS FAITHFUL TO CHRIST.

From Suffering to Salvation

Psalm 22:19–31
Psalm 22 is a powerful passage because it begins in the shadow of suffering and moves into victory, praise, and worldwide proclamation.

While the resurrection is not stated as directly as in the Gospels, the movement of the Psalm—from apparent death and abandonment to answered prayer, praise, and a message carried to future generations—beautifully points forward to Christ’s victory over death.
