Today is the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The most pure Heart of Our Lady, adorned with every virtue, was always united to the Sacred Heart of her Divine Son; indeed, it was from Mary that He took His human Heart. These Hearts loved one another more than we can comprehend, and they suffered in union with one another as well: in Our Lord’s Passion, Our Lady’s Heart was pierced by a sword when Our Lord’s Head was pierced by thorns and His Heart by a lance.

Our Lady’s Heart is filled with love for us too. She is truly our Mother, and her maternal Heart is a refuge for us sinners in all our needs. Whether we need a favor, the conversion of a loved one or anything at all, we should fly to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and she will hear us. Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation!

Let us come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and may find grace for a timely help.

Adeámus cm fidúcia ad thronum grátiæ, ut misericórdiam consequámur, et grátiam inveniámus in auxílio opportúno.

Today is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Our Lord, Who preserved His Mother immaculate from sin from the first moment of her conception, would not allow her to suffer bodily corruption but brought her to Heaven, body and soul, to join Him there. Our Lord’s Ascension and Our Lady’s Assumption are a beautiful reflection on our own humanity and its destiny. Our Lord, the God-Man, and Our Lady, the new Eve and the pride of our race, both reign in their glorified bodies in Heaven, a reminder that our humanity in its entirety, body and soul, will join them someday if we follow in their footsteps.

Almighty everlasting God, Who hast taken body and soul into Heaven the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Thy Son: grant, we beseech Thee, that by steadfastly keeping Heaven as our goal we may be counted worthy to join her in glory.

Today is the Feast of St. Joseph.
St. Joseph is the patron of the universal Church, of fathers, families, workers, and a happy death. Devotion to this great saint should be an aspect of the spiritual life of every Catholic, for in so doing we are following the example of Christ Himself, Who was devoted to him on earth and placed Himself with filial love under his care. If we desire to increase our devotion to Our Lord and Our Lady, we have no better recourse than to St. Joseph.
St. Teresa of Ávila tells us of his great intercessory power:
To other Saints Our Lord seems to have given power to succor us in some special necessity – but to this glorious Saint, I know by experience, He has given the power to help us in all. Our Lord would have us understand that as He was subject to St. Joseph on earth – for St. Joseph, bearing the title of father and being His guardian, could command Him – so now in Heaven Our Lord grants all his petitions.

ST. MATTHEW - Apostle and Evangelist
Feast Day: SEPTEMBER 21

Jesus most likely first encountered Matthew near the house of Peter, in Capernaum near the Sea of Galilee. The meeting of the two was dramatic, as Matthew's third-person account in his Gospel captured: “As Jesus passed on, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, 'Follow me'. And he got up and followed him.”
St. Matthew is known to us principally as an Evangelist, with his Gospel being the first in position in the New Testament. His Gospel was written to convince the Jews that their anticipated Messiah had come in the person of Jesus.
Not much else is known about Matthew. According to tradition, he preached in Egypt and Ethiopia and further places East. Some traditions say he lived until his nineties, dying a peaceful death, others say he died a martyr's death.

SEVEN SORROWS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY - September 15

The prophesy of Simeon that a sword would pierce our Blessed Mother's heart was fulfilled in the events known as the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For this reason, Mary is sometimes depicted with her heart exposed and with seven swords piercing it. More importantly, each new suffering was received with the courage, love, and trust that echoed her fiat, let it be done unto me according to Thy word, first uttered at the Annunciation.

Most Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us know and at the hour of our death.. Amen.

Today is the feast of ST. CAMILLUS DE LELLIS!
St. Camillus de Lellis was born in 1550 in Bocchianico, Italy. He fought for the Venetians against the Turks, was addicted to gambling and penniless by age 25. He suffered from a battle injury in his leg that brought him to a hospital in Rome where he had a spiritual conversion.
He became a priest and founded the Camillians, a religious order dedicated to the care of the sick. He died on July 14, 1614, in Rome and was canonized by Pope Benedict XIV in 1746. St. Camillus is the patron saint of hospitals, nurses, and the sick.

St. Ignatius of Loyola, pray for us!

"St. Ignatius was born at Loyola in Spain, in the year 1491. He served his king as a courtier and a soldier till his thirtieth year. At that age, being laid low by a wound, he received the call of divine grace to leave the world. He embraced poverty and humiliation, that he might become more like to Christ, and won others to join him in the service of God. Prompted by their love for Jesus Christ, Ignatius and his companions made a vow to go to the Holy Land, but war broke out, and prevented the ex*****on of their project. Then they turned to the Vicar of Jesus Christ, and placed themselves under his obedience. This was the beginning of the Society of Jesus. Our Lord promised St. Ignatius that the precious heritage of His Passion should never fail his Society, a heritage of contradictions and persecutions. St. Ignatius was cast into prison at Salamanca, on a suspicion of heresy. To a friend who expressed sympathy with him on account of his imprisonment, he replied, "It is a sign that you have but little love of Christ in your heart, or you would not deem it so hard a fate to be in chains for His sake. I declare to you that all Salamanca does not contain as many fetters, manacles, and chains as I long to wear for the love of Jesus Christ." St. Ignatius went to his crown on the 31st July, 1556." -from Alban Butler's "Lives of the Saints"

St. Martha, pray for us!

"St. John tells us that "Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus," and yet but few glimpses are vouchsafed us of them. First, the sisters are set before us with a word. Martha received Jesus into her house, and was busy in outward, loving, lavish service, while Mary sat in silence at the feet she had bathed with her tears. Then, their brother is ill, and they send to Jesus, "Lord, he whom Thou lovest is sick." And in His own time the Lord came, and they go out to meet Him; and then follows that scene of unutterable tenderness and of sublimity unsurpassed: the silent waiting of Mary; Martha strong in faith, but realizing so vividly, with her practical turn of mind, the fact of death, and hesitating: "Canst Thou show Thy wonders in the grave?" And then once again, on the eve of His Passion, we see Jesus at Bethany. Martha, true to her character, is serving; Mary, as at first, pours the precious ointment, in adoration and love, on His divine head. And then we find the tomb of St. Martha, at Tarascon, in Provence. When the storm of persecution came, the family of Bethany, with a few companions, were put into a boat, without oars or sail, and borne to the coast of France. St. Mary's tomb is at St. Baume; St. Lazarus is venerated as the founder of the Church of Marseilles; and the memory of the virtues and labors of St. Martha is still fragrant at Avignon and Tarascon." -from Alban Butler's "Lives of the Saints"
