Meet Hayden Hefner, our newest Church Planting Resident! 👋

One of the ways Henderson Hills pursues our vision of becoming a hub for an all-ages disciple-making movement is by helping raise up and send church planters to take the gospel into new communities. Over the next season, Hayden will be serving in the life of our church while preparing to plant a new church somewhere in the Oklahoma City metro.

Hayden grew up in Bridge Creek, has been married to his wife Britney for 10 years, and is the proud dad of two boys (ages 4 and 9 months). Before coming to Henderson Hills, he served as a pastor/elder at Bridgeway Church in OKC.

When he's not spending time with family or preparing for church planting, you'll probably find him taking a walk, working in the yard, working out, or cheering on the Cowboys. (Fun fact: he graduated from OU but is somehow still a die-hard OSU fan. 🤔)

Hayden has sensed a call to church planting for many years, and over the next 18 months he'll be praying, building a team, raising support, and seeking God's direction for where to plant.

Be sure to say hello when you see Hayden and his family around campus, and join us in praying for them as they prepare for this exciting next step of ministry.

Somewhere in Ghana, a young girl will be impacted because a child at VBS decided to give.

As we wrapped up an incredible week of Illuminate VBS, we celebrated more than a successful event - we celebrated kids discovering that they can be part of God's work around the world!

Throughout the week, children brought offerings and assembled school bags to support Pearl House, a ministry that provides education, discipleship, and opportunity for young women in Ghana.

Our goal was to raise $8,000 and by the end of the week, these kids gave an incredible $11,657.67! 🎉

Thank you to every parent, volunteer, and church member who gave, served, and prayed. What a beautiful reminder that God can use even the smallest hands and biggest hearts to make an eternal impact.

For some children, VBS begins with a bus ride.

Every morning, buses travel across Edmond to pick up kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend. By the time they arrive on campus, they're welcomed by volunteers who know their names, care about their stories, and are eager to share the hope of Jesus with them.

Today, those children joined hundreds of others in discovering that Jesus is God's plan for forgiveness. Through Peter's message in Acts 2, they learned that no one is beyond God's grace and that every person is invited into a relationship with Christ.

Church family, we'd love for you to experience Illuminate VBS for yourself tonight at Illuminate Labs: After Hours! Beginning at 6:30 pm, kids will guide their families through the exhibits they've been exploring all week, giving you a firsthand look at what God has been doing in their hearts and minds.

Some of the most important conversations happening this week are taking place between children and their leaders.

Today at Illuminate VBS, kids heard the story of Jesus healing the sick, caring for those in need, and feeding thousands with just a few loaves and fish. But more importantly, they discovered something about who He is. Jesus isn't distant. He sees people. He cares for people. And He has the power to change lives.

Thanks to the investment of over 300 staff and volunteers, hundreds of children spent the day hearing the truth of God's Word, asking questions, and learning more about the Savior who loves them.

And that compassion is already being put into action. Through our partnership with Pearl House, kids are helping provide opportunities for young women in Ghana to hear the gospel, receive an education, and experience the hope found in Christ.

We're only two days into the week, and we're already grateful for what God is doing.

"Who do you say that I am?"

Today, hundreds of kids spent the first day of Illuminate VBS wrestling with the most important question they'll ever answer.

As they explored Jesus' question to His disciples, they discovered that Jesus is the Messiah, God's Promised Son. But the conversation didn't stop there. Throughout the day, kids were challenged to think about who Jesus is - not just to His disciples, but to them personally.

In classrooms, hallways, and small groups, children asked questions and dug deeper into God's Word. And on day one alone, we were reminded that God is still at work drawing hearts to Himself.

Fresh faces have arrived! Welcome our newest interns: Madi West, Cooper Bortmess, and Abby Brown!

Madi and Cooper will be serving in both Student and Worship Ministries over the summer and will then focus solely on Worship Ministry through to 2027.

Abby will be serving alongside our Hillside Kids team over the summer, investing in our kids and supporting keys areas of ministry during a busy season.

A conversation today. A changed life tomorrow.

We asked three of our Student Ministry volunteers what they love most about serving, and their answers remind us why investing in the next generation matters.

From student camp to Sunday morning Community Groups, they’re faithfully showing up and making an eternal impact one student at a time.
