“I know I am safe because I am at Pearl House.”

That simple sentence stayed with our team after visiting Pearl House in Ghana this spring. Several of the girls who shared those words had only been there a few weeks, yet one of the first things they experienced was refuge.

Pearl House provides Christ-centered care for girls who have experienced abuse, trafficking, poverty, and other trauma through safe housing, counseling, education, vocational training, and discipleship.

During our April trip, members of the team encouraged the girls and reminded them that God makes us brave. As the girls shared what makes them feel safe, valued, and empowered, it was powerful to hear how often Pearl House itself was part of their answer.

We are grateful to partner with Pearl House this year as our VBS Missions emphasis and are excited for our kids and families to learn more about the work God is doing through this ministry.

Help us welcome our newest staff member, Linda Waters, to the HHBC team!

Linda is joining us as our new Hillside Kids Ministry Assistant. She grew up in Southern California and just got married in February to Don Brown. She has two adult children — a daughter in Columbus, Ohio and a son here in Edmond.

When she’s not at church, you can probably find her at a Bible study, exercising, watching the Thunder, or spending time with her crazy dogs, Ellie and Addie. And if she could be anything in the world, she says she’d be the next Beth Moore or Jen Wilkin.

We’re grateful Linda is here and thankful for the care and support we know she'll bring to our Hillside Kids team and families.

Most people will never see everything that goes into a Sunday morning. The early mornings, rehearsals, cables, cameras, lighting, lyrics, audio checks, and countless behind-the-scenes details.

So we asked a few of our Production volunteers what they love most about serving.

Week after week, they show up faithfully because they believe every role matters when it comes to helping people encounter Jesus. We’re grateful for those who use their gifts, time, and energy to serve the Church with excellence and humility. 💙

You never know what God might do through one invitation, one conversation, or one faithful step of obedience.

Watching Riot share his story is a reminder that behind every baptism, every smile, and every changed life is a God who pursues people relentlessly.

And so often, He uses His people to do it.
Leaders who give up their time.
Church members who simply choose to care.

This is why we pour so much into things like VBS. Because what may look like a single week on the calendar can become part of someone’s eternity.

Stories like this don’t happen by accident. They are evidence of God’s kindness and a church family living on mission together.

There are nights you don’t expect to stay with you, but Tuesday did.

Our Joyful Sound Choir closed out the year with a talent show full of joy and courage. From twirling and sign language to drama and worship, each act celebrated people using their gifts and being fully seen.

A one-act telling of David and Goliath had the room leaning in, while a solo worship song brought more than a few tears. Caregivers, parents, volunteers, and church members filled the room with cheering, and laughing, and reminding each performer they belong.

The night ended with certificates recognizing the work each member put in this season, along with the ways they’ve loved one another.

Joyful Sound will take a short break for the summer and return in August, but nights like this are a reminder of the Lord's goodness.
