“Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord” (Psalm 128:4). This Sunday I am sharing from God’s Word about “the fear of the Lord.” I feel that many today in the church don’t really know what it means to live life “in the fear of the Lord.”

The above Scripture verse reminds me of a story of when I was a boy. I was around 10 or 12 years old and I had gone to stay with my grandparents. My sister and I loved staying with our grandparents. We didn’t have to wait till my parents wanted to do something and needed us to stay with them; we would beg our parents to let us stay with them all the time. They had several acres and lots of places to play and roam so it was like entering a wonderland. And a bonus was that my grandmother was a great cook and I was a great eater. Fresh cooked hamburgers with a frosty Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle was one of my favorites. Ahhh!

On this particular visit, maw-maw wanted me to climb up one of their trees and prune some of the branches. There was no tree known to man that I could not and would not climb so indeed, I was excited about this chore. So I shot up the tree with a limb saw while maw-maw stood below telling me which limb to prune. I was high up about 18-20 feet when I mis-stepped and fell to the ground. I hit a lot of branches on my way to the ground scraping myself up something fierce. But this was an amazing grace because had I fallen 18 feet to the ground without something to slow my fall, I would have been more seriously injured. When I finally quit hitting limbs I was nearly to the ground 😊.

I loved maw-maw and she loved me but I was pretty afraid of her. You didn’t mess with maw-maw and you certainly didn’t talk back to her. Yet, I loved to be with her and paw-paw. When I hit the ground maw-maw asked me if I was alright and before I could get the answer out she yanked me up and walked me to the bathroom so she could douse me in Methiolate. The medicine was WAY worse than the fall itself. I said emphatically, “BLOW ON IT! BLOW ON IT!!” and she set me down in from of a box fan and turned it on high to cool the burn. Maw-maw didn’t want me to get an infection. What wonderful childhood memories 😊.

This is a funny memory that reveals how love and fear go together. You see, I knew there wasn’t anything my grandparents wouldn’t do for me and my sister. We wanted to stay with them all the time and they wanted us to. Some of my fondest childhood memories were spending days with them. But maw-maw would set me straight in a blink of an eye and even though I feared her at times I loved and respected her deeply.

As an adult, now when I look back on the discipline I received from my grandparents, my parents, my teachers or coaches, I’m grateful that they loved and cared for me enough to discipline me and teach me right and wrong and the difference between good and bad.

You’ve heard that God welcomes us just as we are but loves us too much to leave us there. We are to know God in the fullest sense of the word—His love and His wrath. God poured out His wrath because of sin, onto His Son who took our place. This is His love for us. But, for anyone who rejects so great a salvation they will one day have to bear the full measure of God’s wrath on their own for their sin. If this doesn’t put some measure of fear in us then we may not be right in the head.

Before Sunday, read Malachi 4 and pray for the Spirit’s help in understanding this Word. I look forward to meeting with you on Sunday and together giving our full worship to our God and King.

I pray blessings to you in the name of the Lord.

From the Pastor

Good afternoon Waterloonaz family and friends. Did you know that our lives are governed by a variety of laws. Whether we like it or not, laws define life on this planet. How so, what kind of laws are we talking about? Let’s see… there’s the law of gravity—what goes up must come down. I found out the other day that there is a law that when you go through a traffic light that is yellow and it turns red while you’re in the middle of the intersection that it is the same as running a red light. But never mind that! 😊

Other laws are:
• Laws of motion
• Conservation laws
• Laws of thermodynamics
These are scientific laws that you’re welcome to look up and learn about if you so choose. I am not familiar with them but I am aware they exist as part of life on this planet.

Other laws are constitutional law, common law, civil law, federal law, and religious law to name a few. If a person wanted to, they could probably find a law that exists for just about everything. We love us some laws, but people are just not that excited about keeping them.

Like a lot of things in life, we didn’t come up with the idea of creating laws. God is the original law maker. God’s most famous law are the 10 Commandments. Ever since their conception mankind has viewed God’s law through a negative lens. Human beings don’t like to be told what to do and not to do. Tell me not to do something and I’m going to do it. Tell me to do something and I’m not going to do it. This is the rebellious spirit that comes from a sin nature. The 10 Commandments are good and come from a good God, yet they have been given to a people who are inherently bad in need of redemption.

This Sunday I’m going to share about two laws that have affected my life dramatically, the law of sin and the law of God or the Spirit. I will be preaching from Romans 7 and 8. I encourage you to read those two chapters before Sunday to refamiliarize yourself with this powerful text from God’s Word. I’ll give you a teaser: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1-2, NKJV).

I sure am looking forward to worshiping our Lord together. See you Sunday!

Blessings!

From the Pastor

Good rainy morning 😊! Debbie and I are preparing to leave for East Texas to see my parents and to attend my niece’s HS graduation. My mind is on Pentecost which is this Sunday. Pentecost is when the church was officially born on this earth.

Jesus had prayed and had taught His disciples to pray for God’s will and kingdom to come on earth. Jesus Himself was God’s kingdom on earth but when God poured out His Spirit once Jesus had ascended to heaven that truly was an exponential increase of the kingdom of heaven manifesting on earth.

Jesus was filled with Holy Spirit when He walked this earth and at Pentecost believers in His name were filled with Holy Spirit just like Him. This would be so for every single believer to come who place their faith in and give their lives to Jesus Christ. You and I are recipients of this wonderful heavenly gift from God our Father for His glory and our great good. Pentecost is truly an amazing heritage given to Christians that largely gets overlooked. Christmas and Easter get all of the attention but Pentecost is the realization and revelation of the power of God on earth.

This power is expressly given to advance the Church (Body of Christ) across the globe to reach people with the gospel. The gospel is the love of God that is for all people and one of the experiences that happens when someone is filled with the Holy Spirit is a divine understanding of God’s love where faith is born and the blessed assurance of personal sins forgiven. The soul is now flooded with love, joy, peace, and all the other fruits of the Spirit so that the one who was far away from God is now brought so very near.

The indwelling presence of Holy Spirit now begins to work holiness of heart and life into the believer and the transformation from sinner to a son/daughter of God begins. A hunger for the Word of God starts to swell and a wonderful holy desire to be with God’s people in blessed fellowship and corporate worship begins to increase. It is unlike anything this world could produce. It truly is a kingdom of heaven reality.

The gift of Holy Spirit enables a person to live for God according to His will and way on this earth. The Holy Spirit helps a person realize their true purpose in life which is to know God who created the universe, heaven and earth and each one of us. God’s purpose in giving life to human beings is so we can reach the pinnacle of living, which is to encounter and know God, to be known by Him, and to make Him known in the world. The absence of God’s presence and knowledge of Him is the product of sin. Look at what happened to Adam and Eve when they sinned against God… they hid from Him. God is grieved when it is our desire to hide from Him. His will is to come to us and the fulfillment of this is realized in Jesus Christ, Immanuel—God with us through the gift of Holy Spirit.

I pray that we will look at Pentecost in a new way. God could have left humanity in our sin along with its destruction and forever separation from Him. But He intervened in human history and human existence to first send us a Savior and then to send us the very means of knowing our Savior and becoming like Him—the Holy Spirit. Thank You God for loving us so much that You sent Your Son. Thank You Jesus for loving us so much that You died for us. Thank You God and thank You Jesus for sending us the gift of Your Spirit so we can realize the power of Your love that forgives and cleanses us from sin. In the power of Your Spirit we are one with You and with one another. Blessed be Your Name!

See you Sunday!

From the Pastor

Hello all! I am very excited about what we’re starting here that I believe will bless you, your spouse, and our entire congregation. We’re launching Grace Marriage—a ministry designed to help couples intentionally invest in their marriage, grow closer together, and live out God’s design for marriage. Our local ministry will be called “Becoming One.” Jesus said, For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and the two will become one” (Mt. 19:5).

Let me start by telling you what Grace Marriage is not. It’s not a counseling session. It’s not a place where you’ll be put on the spot or asked to share your deepest, darkest secrets in front of everyone. So, guys—don’t worry! This isn’t about forced sharing, and no one’s going to make you spill your guts. Instead, it’s a safe, engaging environment where you’ll have the opportunity to reflect, learn, and connect. Of course, you’ll build relationships along the way, but the primary objective is to grow in your marriage.

Now, let me tell you what Grace Marriage is. It’s a discipleship pathway for marriages—a long-term, proactive approach to strengthening your relationship. Through Grace Marriage, you’ll receive practical, engaging video lessons, beautiful journal-style workbooks with a full year of content, and access to bonus resources on the Grace Marriage website. Each session will help you focus on key areas of your relationship and grow in oneness and connection.

We’re kicking things off on June 26th with the first session meeting on that Friday at 6pm at the church. This is your chance to prioritize your marriage and grow together in a meaningful way.

Here’s the reality—wishing for a stronger marriage won’t make it happen. Growth takes intentionality. Let’s be honest—this is probably the most important relationship in your life. Yet for many of us, we’ll spend more on coffee or yard mulch this year than we will on our marriage. It’s time to change that and treat our marriages like the treasures they are.

Life is busy, and if we’re not careful, the urgent will always squeeze out the important. You might be thinking, “With work, we’re too busy,” or “With kids’ activities, we’re too busy.” Let me lovingly say this: if you’re too busy for your marriage, then you’re too busy—PERIOD!

Some of you might say, “Our marriage is fine. It’s stable. We’re not in crisis.” But here’s the thing—God didn’t create your marriage to just be fine or stable. He created it to be very, very, very good. He designed it to thrive, to grow, and to reflect His love to the world. And sometimes, the greatest threat to your marriage isn’t crisis—it’s complacency. Don’t let “good” become the enemy of “great.”
Marriage and families are most precious because God is the One who designed and created them in order to receive, model and share His love in the world. Stay tuned for more information about Becoming One marriage ministry.

I am looking forward to worshipping with you this Sunday. We have been hearing from the Lord through His prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 about how it has three parts: God’s glory; God’s presence; and God’s multiplication. This Sunday is about how God multiplies His kingdom in our midst when we put His glory and His presence first in our lives. Come ready and eager to encounter Jesus.

Blessings upon blessings to you.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31:25-26)

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. We will recognize and honor our moms in our service. There are birth moms, adopted moms, neighborhood moms, foster moms, and moms that are also grandmothers, aunts and sisters. I knew a man whose sister raised him and cared for him just like a mom would. Truly, God has done something amazing by giving us moms.

There are two moms that mean everything to me. One mom gave birth to me and raised me and cared for me. She is the one who wanted to name me Monty after the actor Montgomery Cliff. No, my name is not Montgomery, but I am called by that name when I’m in trouble by both of these moms.

There are lots of memories that flood my mind as I think back on my mama. I remember being about 6 or 7 years old and having a particularly nasty stomach bug. Mama went to the grocery store and brought me home a little 3 car train set. I remember being so surprised and how effective it was to help me feel better. At the time it was the toy but now looking back, it was mama’s love and desire to help me feel better.

The other mom that means everything to me you know very well. She is the mother of our three adult children. Debbie is so good at being a mom. Taylor, Sydney, and Seth love her so much and they love her to mama them even now. A person doesn’t have to know Debbie very long before she begins caring for them with motherly love. As I have watched her over the years, I am still amazed by the way she so naturally and easily loves others with a mother’s kind of love.

In my humble opinion, a mother’s love resembles God’s love. She will love unconditionally and sacrificially. I’m sorry to say that not all moms are created equal. Many have struggled with motherhood, and others have failed in motherhood and certainly no mother is perfect. May we give our mothers to Jesus praying for His amazing grace for them. May we ask God to help mothers everywhere and at every age; mothers who don’t yet have children; and especially mothers who wish they didn’t have children. May they all encounter God’s love for them and accept God’s provision of help so they can live out to the full their calling of being a mom. I thank God for mothers and I’m truly grateful for the two moms in my life. I love you with all my heart!

With much love in Christ,

Good afternoon church family. I hope this note finds you blessed. I want to take the time to share a few things with you. I first want to share with you the ballot results from our annual meeting.

Department leaders:
Nazarene Discipleship International Lori Grafford
Nazarene Missions International John Gibbon

Church Board Members-at-large:
Gary Karraker Steve Stevenson
Brent Hall Rose Marie McDaniel
Bill Snyder Doris Beecham
Brad Goodman

I thank God for these leaders, and I thank God for each of you who participated in the election of the leadership for this church year.

I also want to share my heart about this past Sunday. What a beautiful day of worship we had together. It was one of those rare times in life where virtually everyone was joy-filled, glad, and full of gratitude. Kids, even though not sure what was happening, all reflected what they were seeing from their parents and other adults. People who couldn’t attend in person but watched via livestream expressed being especially blessed.

Very few things in life if any bring such consensus of joy and when it happens it is from the Lord. Sunday was of the Lord! Sunday was a snapshot of heaven in my opinion. For a period of time, it seemed the whole congregation forgot their struggles and were able to rejoice with feelings of gladness and thanksgiving. More of this Lord!! More of you!!

Thank the Lord for such a blessed day. It is only in the Lord that we are ever able to realize genuine joy and authentic gratitude from the depths of our hearts. Life seems so full of trials and tragedy, and it was a wonderful blessing indeed to celebrate baptisms and rejoice at how God is working in the lives of these candidates and their families. What a privilege it is to be part of what God is doing in their lives.

May the blessing of that day have lasting and residual effect especially in the lives and families of the newly baptized. What a wonderful God You are to us! Amen!

This Sunday we will celebrate another church sacrament—Holy Communion. We will also have a baby dedication for Buckner Cayde Bagley. I will again be sharing from Matthew 6 on the Lord’s Prayer. Join me now in praying for God’s glory and presence in our gathering. Come with eager and hungry hearts for Jesus.

With love,

From the Pastor

I came across an index card in my journal that had a powerful “saying” on it that applies to all of us who are in Christ. I thought it good enough to write down and save and I believe it applies to us at WCN.

“I’m just a nobody willing to tell anybody that there is Somebody willing to save everybody and His name is Jesus!” PRAISE GOD for Jesus!

This Sunday our text will again be on the Lord’s Prayer. If you have time read the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4 in different translations. Prayerfully consider Matthews version from The Passion Translation:

“Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms, may the glory of Your name be the center on which our lives turn. Manifest Your kingdom realm and cause Your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth just as it is fulfilled in heaven.” (Matt. 6:9-10). Different translations can grant new perspectives on biblical texts that perhaps we have heard over and over again from a certain translation. May God truly open our eyes to what He wants us to know. May our corporate prayer be for the glory of God, the presence of God and multiplication by God in our midst. Amen!

Praise God with me that He has and is breathing His life into our church body. Come Sunday with an eager expectation for all that the Spirit wants to say and do among us. See you Sunday!

Mercy, grace, and peace be multiplied to you!

From the Pastor

Hello all! Greetings to you and blessings to you in the name of the Lord! Today is Tuesday but you probably will receive this on Wednesday or Thursday. I wanted to write a few notes about our Easter services while it is still fresh on my mind. What a wonderful Resurrection Day we had together.

Our weekend began on Good Friday as we gathered to commemorate Jesus’ death on the cross. It was a poignant time of refection and prayer and worship. What a powerful truth that Jesus died and was separated from God so we could live and enjoy communion with God. Amazing Grace!

Sunday began with our traditional Easter morning breakfast and what a blessing it was. All manner of breakfast casseroles, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls and so much more. As good as the food was the fellowship was even better. This church simply loves to come together and be together. As we broke bread there was a buzz and the spiritual energy started to increase. There was this anticipation of something…

As the time approached when service was to begin people started arriving from the north, south, east, and west to gather and celebrate the empty tomb—Jesus Christ had been raised from the dead! He is ALIVE!!

I really enjoy Easter but I cannot remember one being as special as this one. What made it more special than any other? I’m not sure I know for certain but I have some ideas. I believe there is a collective hunger for the Spirit of God to be in our midst. Our overall national social condition leaves many of us longing for the only One who can change circumstances in our families, communities, cities, and our nation. We are together praying and crying out for the power of God—resurrection power—to be realized in our own lives, our loved ones and societies.

When Jesus rose from the grave and came to see His followers everything changed. Their sadness turned to jubilation! Their fear turned to bold exuberance! Their lack of understanding turned to wise discernment and their inability and inhibition turned to zealous proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The beginning of “power from on High” was being poured into their lives and wherever they went and wherever they were things were changed.

I believe this is what we were feeling and experiencing this Easter Sunday. We weren’t just hearing the story but we experienced in measure the story. I told Debbie that this Easter was a first in several respects. Since becoming your pastor, this Easter we saw the most people gathered, 170; we saw the most young families and children gathered. This was, in my opinion, the most free and Spirit-filled celebration yet. There was joy, elated levels of joy! There was shouts of praise and worship and spiritual awareness and sensitivity like I’ve not witnessed before in any of our worship gatherings. This is an answer to our prayers! What a wonderful day!

I hope and believe that you felt this as well. Tell somebody about it; testify and brag on God. Let me know how God touched you and what your thoughts were on this Easter. Let us praise God for such a wonderful day together. Amen!

This Sunday I begin a series on the Lord’s prayer. I’ve preached on it before but this will be different. There are three parts to this prayer that together is pivotal for us in encountering God in a way that changes everything on this earth. The glory of God, the presence of God and the multiplication of God. We will look at these parts in our Lord’s prayer over the next few Sunday’s. Read the prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4 before Sunday. I’m more eager now than ever to gather with you and worship! See you Sunday.

Grace and peace!

From the Pastor

Happy Thursday! I hope this note finds you well. Do you ever forget things? You probably don’t but I forget things all the time.

I forget to set my alarm, I forget to turn off the lights, I forget to take my vitamins, I forget someone’s name, I forget to check in after driving to see my parents, I forget to stop and get gas, I forget why I walked into a room. Sometimes I forget to shave. This is only a small example of my great ability to forget.

I wonder why it is so easy to forget things, God knew that we would struggle with our memories because He has said in various Scriptures:
• “Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.”
– 1 Chronicles 16:12
• “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget…”
– Deuteronomy 4:9
• “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” – Psalm 103:2
• “My son do not forget my teaching but keep my commands in your heart.”
– Proverbs 3:1
• “Do this in remembrance of me.”—Luke 22:19

Above I was sort of making fun of my sometimes poor memory but in truth this can be a significant issue for all of us. Being too busy and distracted can fuel an already weak memory. Debbie makes list so she can feel the satisfaction of marking things off. I make lists so I don’t forget 😊. There’s something very satisfying about remembering.

One of the reasons we have seasons such as Lent as well as Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving is so we can remember what God has done for us throughout time. If our tendency is to forget then we need these beautiful festival times to celebrate and give thanks as well as to move closer and closer to the Lord.

One thing is certain, God never forgets! Forgetting must be part of the curse that sin exacted upon us early on because we are so good at it. But thanks be to God He never forgets us! You and I are ever before Him.

Wait a minute!! In Christ, God forgets our sins. They are thrown into the sea of forgetfulness Micah 7:19. Praise God! that He never forgets us but He does forget our sins when they are washed in the Blood of the Lamb.

With the Spirit’s help may we remember God and all His benefits. May we remember each other and love one another with the love God has shown us in Christ. May our memories improve for Christ sake.

Some things not to forget: This Friday is “Good Friday” and our service begins at 6pm. Sunday morning will be our annual all church Easter breakfast. Bring enough of your favorite breakfast food for yourself and a friend. Easter Service begins at
1030am concluding with an Egg Hunt for the littles beginning at 12 noon.

Come with your hearts open and eager to be filled with all the God has in store and bring everyone you can with you. I’m very excited!!

With much love!
