When Otto Heden first arrived at Southwestern Oklahoma State University after spending a year at a Kansas junior college, the distance from home felt like more than just thousands of miles.
Like many international students, Heden found himself surrounded by people but still feeling completely alone. His experience nearly ended his time in the United States.
But a few key changes shifted everything.
After getting a car, Heden began attending the Gathering at First Baptist Church Weatherford and became involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The connections he found there helped transform a lonely sophomore year into something else entirely: a desire to make sure no other international student has to experience that same isolation.
