Octavia De Avila, a lifelong resident of Edinburg, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Pharr, Texas, at the age of 93.

Born on March 22, 1933, in Edinburg, Octavia lived a long and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and community. Her life was a reflection of devotion to her family and the simple joys that brought her happiness throughout the years.

Octavia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Isabel De Avila; her parents, Luz and Victoria Moya; and her siblings, San Juana Coronado, Aurora Arevalo, Rosa Cedillo, Gonzalo Moya, Federico Moya, David Moya, Ricardo Moya, and Manuel Moya. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she carried their love with her always.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jackson and her husband Joe; her grandchildren, Vanessa Palomino and her husband Juan, Jonathan Garcia, Michael Garcia, Belinda Sanchez and her husband Eddie, Joseph Jackson, Jaime Jackson, and Jacob Jackson; and her 12 great-grandchildren. Octavia treasured her family deeply, and her greatest joy came from the time she spent with them. Her love, guidance, and steady presence will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She found joy in the traditions that brought people together, especially Mexican loteria, which she enjoyed throughout her life. Her appreciation for family gatherings and shared moments reflected the warmth of her character and the importance she placed on togetherness.

Octavia De Avila will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her legacy is one of devotion, resilience, and love. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the example she set and the memories she created will remain a lasting comfort to all who were blessed to know her.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, June 1,2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Rivera Hillcrest Funeral Home in Edinburg with a celebration of life service at 6:30 pm

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 02 ,2026 at 9:00 am at the Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Edinbug.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations of Edinburg.

Con el corazón lleno de tristeza, anunciamos que nuestra querida madre, Areopajita, “Paquita,” Chapa Garza ha partido a la casa del Señor. Entró en el descanso eterno el miércoles 20 de mayo de 2026 en su residencia en Edinburg, Texas. Nació un miércoles, el 9 de octubre de 1940, en Congregación Ochoa, Camargo, Tamaulipas, México, hija de Miguel Chapa y Martina Garza Chapa. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, su esposo —Raúl Leonides Garza—, tres hermanos y cuatro hermanas.

Le sobreviven sus amadas hijas: Martha Laura (Hugo) Cuzzolino, Rosa Elia Fazzio, Sandra Patricia Garza, María del Carmen (Marcos) Sainz y Claudia (Arnaldo) Noyolas, así como diez nietos.

“Paquita”, como la conocía cariñosamente su familia, fue propietaria y operadora de un salón de belleza que dirigió desde su propio hogar durante más de quince años. Disfrutaba armar rompecabezas y, especialmente, jugar a la lotería. Le encantaba ver películas de la Época de Oro del cine, pero lo que más disfrutaba era pasar tiempo con su amada familia. Paquita será extrañada por todos aquellos cuyas vidas tocó.

Sus restos estarán siendo velados en Ceballos-Díaz Funeral Home, 322 E Kuhn St, Edinburg, TX miércoles, mayo 27, 2026 a las 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Rezo del Santo Rosario: 6:00 p.m.

La misa de despedida se llevará a cabo el jueves, mayo 28, 2026 a las 10:00 a.m. en la iglesia Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 E Kuhn St, Edinburg, TX. Posteriormente, llevaremos a cabo el sepelio en el cementerio Hillcrest Memorial Park, 1701 E Richardson Rd Edinburg, TX.

With hearts filled with sadness, we announce that our beloved mother, Areopajita “Paquita” Chapa Garza, has departed for the House of the Lord. She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 20 2026 at her residence in Edinburg, Texas. She was born on a Wednesday, October 9, 1940 in Congresacion Ochoa, Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Miguel Chapa and Martina Garza Chapa. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Raul Leonides Garza, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

She is survived by her loving daughters; Martha Laura (Hugo) Cuzzolino, Rosa Elia Fazzio, Sandra Patricia Garza, Maria del Carmen (Marcos) Sainz and Claudia (Arnaldo) Noyolas as well as 10 grandchildren.

“Paquita” as she was affectionately known to family owned and operated a beauty salon out of her home for over 15 years. She enjoyed doing puzzles and especially playing loteria. She loved watching peliculas del Cine Oro but what she enjoyed the most was spending time with her loving family. Paquita will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Her remains will lie in repose at Ceballos-Díaz Funeral Home, 322 E Kuhn St, Edinburg, TX on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 E Kuhn St, Edinburg, TX 78541. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 E Richardson Rd, Edinburg, TX.

EDINBURG - Jorge Armando Alvarez, 56, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Edinburg surrounded by his family. Mr. Alvarez was preceded in death by his brother, Luis Eduardo Alvarez.

Mr. Alvarez is survived by his two children, Azlid Alvarez, and Luis Eduardo Alvarez; his parents, Domingo Alvarez, and Maria De Los Angeles Sosa; four siblings, Julio Cesar Alvarez, Carlos Alvarez, Leticia (Robert) Acuña, and Maria (Hector) Montemayor; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. talk on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.

With profound sadness and heartfelt love, we announce the passing of Juan Soto on May 19, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on March 10, 1939, Juan lived a life filled with kindness, strength, and compassion.

Juan was a devoted brother, a loving father, and a cherished friend to many. He touched countless lives with his warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering support for those around him. His presence brought comfort and joy to family and friends, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Juan’s legacy of love, friendship, and dedication will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will live on through the memories shared and the lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Josefa R. Garces, a lifelong resident of Edinburg, Texas, passed away on May 20, 2026, in Edinburg at the age of 84.

She was born on October 26, 1941, in Mexico, and throughout her life she carried with her the values of hard work, devotion, and faith that shaped the many years she shared with her family.

Josefa made her home in Edinburg for most of her life, where she built a legacy centered on family, love, and steadfast commitment to those around her. She found joy in the simple and meaningful blessings of life, especially gardening and family gatherings. Her garden reflected the care and patience she gave so freely to others, and her home was often a place where family and friends felt welcomed, nourished, and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Rodrigues and M. Buenaventura Barrientos, and by her husband, Christobal Garces Sr. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she carried their influence with grace and strength. Josefa honored her family through the way she lived, always placing love, unity, and faith at the center of her days.

She is survived by her children, Maribel G. and (Ruben ) Rodriguez, Christobal and (Lupita) Garces Jr., and Daniel and (Crystal) Garces, who will forever treasure the love, guidance, and example she gave them. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Reuben Adrian and (Kayla) Rodriguez, Jeric Ivan Rodriguez, Christobal Garces III, and Alejandro Jesus Garces, as well as her great-grandchildren, Reuben Adrian Rodriguez Jr., Roman Cordell Rodriguez, and Reymundo Charles Rodriguez. Each of them carries forward a part of her spirit, her kindness, and her enduring devotion to family.

Her family will remember her for the love she gave so generously, the traditions she helped preserve, and the many memories created around her table and in her home.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be Tuesday May 26, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 PM at the Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations Chapel,1300 N.I-69C Frontage Rd in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
