Experiment Boldly; Fail Forward!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).”

Jesus was once asked, “And who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29)

Perhaps Monday offers us another way to ask the question:

Who needs a neighbor today?

Who needs someone to listen?
Who needs to be welcomed rather than judged?
Who needs someone to stand beside them or speak up with them?
Who simply needs to know they have not been forgotten?

Our neighbors are not only those who live nearby or those whose lives look like ours. Jesus continually draws the circle wider.

As a new week begins, may we pay attention to the people God places before us and be ready to answer the call to love our neighbor.

Who might God be inviting you to notice today?

Are you looking to learn more about our indigenous neighbors? This is a class being offered on September 15 at 7 PM. To register, click the link below.

The Indigenous Theological Circle presents the first of our monthly classes and presentations for our donors and supporters, starting with an "Indian 101" class taught by our Director of Ecumenical and Tribal Relations, Vance Blackfox.

"The general population knows very little about the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island -- even the most basic topics are often grand mysteries. This, of course, is by design, as the colonial project has prioritized the complete erasure of Native people for centuries. Indian 101 is a time to learn some of these basics and to cultivate a foundation for standing in solidarity with Indian people across the U.S., as we all work together to dismantle longstanding systems of oppression."

We invite you to join us and to forward this invitation to others in your community.

Tuesday, September 15, 2026, 7 pm CT

This class is a virtual class, and you will receive a Zoom link
once you register.

This weekend, many of us will participate in the Sacred Sites tour. May it be a transformative experience and may our hearts be grieved by our complicity in harming our indigenous neighbors.

"As I have slowly learned the history and listened to survivor stories, I ponder, What if I were a Native elder and watched my precious grandchildren taken -- to not return at all, or return broken and alienated - the trauma, sorrow of it all. What if I were a white Lutheran college graduate - I may have chosen to go teach at an Indian boarding school as a “good Christian,” helping people in need. I carry deep questions about the “through-threads” of theology and white supremacy that shaped our institutions’ treatment of Indigenous people and how they are still alive in us today."
